The body on this car is one of the nicest you will ever see. This car has been so well kept and was previously owned by a true alfa enthusiest who took pride in having a true italian 60's sport car. Everything was done right and done with meticulous detail. This vehicle is in the Duetto Registry currently as #81a restored to original Ivory/Black. you can check it our at duettoregister.com I am not an afficianado on this vehicle by any means and I am learning more and more about them every day. The way I took ownership of this vehicle was truly a gift of chance. I was in Monterey California for The Concourse last august and happened upon a new auction company that was having there first auction in Monterey and this vehicle was one of the vehicles offered for sale. I do know how rare the boat tail cars are so My partner and I purchased the vehicle as an investment with plans to hold the car for several years. due to both of us being married we are now selling the car to keep it out of an upcoming divorce situation.

The Spider was launched at the 36th Geneva moto show in March 1966, and together with the Guila Sprint GT Veloce tested by the press at an event organized in Gardone Riviera. To choose a name for the spider Alfa Romeo announced a write-in competition, ffering an example of the new car as a prize. Over 100 thousand ballots were sent in, he great majority from Italy; the winner was Guidobaldo Trionfi, man from Brescia, ho proposed the name Duetto (duet). However the Duetto name could not be officially adopted due to trademark issues, nd the car was named simply Alfa Romeo Spider 1600. The Spider's 1,570cc twin cam engine had dual Weber two-barrel side-draft carburetors, nd produced 109 PS DIN (80 KW; 108 hp; or 129 PS SAE). Sparsely fitted inside but including five speed manual transmission and disc brakes, he price on launch in Italy was 2,195,000 lire. In the United States the car sold for $3,950 (compared to $3,991 for a Lotus Elan and $2,607 for an MGB ). In the United Kingdom the car's price was close to a Jaguar E type
A 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 is famously featured in the 1967 hit film "The Graduate", tarring Dustin Hoffman ,Katharine Ross and Anne Bancroft. This appearance gave worldwide celebrity to the Spider Boat tail Duetto. The car depicted on screen had its engine note accurately recorded, nd electrical foibles (the non-functional fuel gauge) reproduced. On the strength of the Spider's appeal, lfa Romeo continued sales of the Spider into the 1990s, nd a special edition named the Alfa Graduate was available in the United States in the 1980s.[23]
The entire set of scenes featuring the Spider in the Graduate were replicated in satire by Mike Myers in his comedy,Waynes World 2The Spider here cuts out to Simon and Garfunkels "Mrs. Robinson" when passing under a bridge (implying music being played on a radio), ut still has a non-functional fuel gauge—causing it to ultimately grind to halt (fortunately at the correct church).
