Description for Alfa Romeo Spider 1960
I am selling this 1960 Alfa Romeo 101 1300 Spider Veloce to settle an estate for a client whose husband died. This Spider has been sitting on a very dry wood second floorbarn for about 12 years. It was driven in and parked and not moved out until about a month ago. The car was pseudo restored around 2000 by a body shop in Rockford. They were not a Alfa minded repair shop so some of the detail is not as good as it could be, but the body is verypresentable. The rockers and cross member ends were rebuilt (the doors open and close easily, door gaps are good) but the jack pockets were not remade and the body to rocker seam was removed and smoothed in with no rocker molding trim, a nice look but not correct. The trunk and surrounding area look good and solid. The originally whitecar was painted with silver lacquer and currently has some paint cracking and release in a couple of areas (doesn't appear to be rusted underneath) as well as some lacquer age staining (light yellowish shade places on the body sides, not sure you can see them in the picture, the light has to be right. The left wheel arc, door and front fender was lightly rubbed against somethin, knocking a little plastic and paint off the rear quarter lip and scuffing the paint on the door and left front fender(see pictures). No bubbling bodyplastic with the exception of a small push where the Pininfarinabadge was on the right side lower fender, they were removed and holes were filled. The chrome trim and bumperswere either re-plated or replaced with new at the time, but the is some light pittingon the rear bumper. The car has only been washed of, so what you see in the pictures is its present condition. The interior seats, floor, door, and behind the seat upholstery was recovered or replaced with brown vinyl. New black carpets were installed next to the brown vinyl upholstery. The interior dash looks original, with a good dash pad. The radio is a period Bowman Ultrasonic Am-Fm. The horn ring and butto, steering wheel and turn signal lever are all in good shape. The outer trimon thebody is there with the exception of the rocker moldings, right headlamp ring, Pininfarina badgesand license plate light cover. The top was replaced but there is a little damage to the rubber roll where it meets the body, maybe a mouse.I was told the motor was refurbished also at this time. I found a receipt, the only one, from White Post Restoration for putting sleeves in the brake wheel cylinders, but I would guess after all this time you would have to get back into them. The car rolls freely. Exhaust was replaced from the header back. The engine turns over nicely and I would think that cleaning the fuel system might enable it to start without too much work. Please keep in mind that this is a real Spider Veloce, not a worked over Normale or wrong engined Veloce. This Veloce is number AR1495 07008 with an "F" stamped above in the firewall, AR00106 02543 engine numbers, twin 40DCOE2 carbs, double front air scoop, one to the carbs, one to the driver compartment (look at the engine compartment pictures). The dash has the 2-8000 rpm tachometer, and the 140 mph speedometer. Even tho this Spider Veloce has some issues its a vehicle that could be touched up, made to run, and driven the way it is or could be brought up to a much higher standard. I'm no expert, but have tried to give a good overall assessment of this vehicle. I personally think its better than I described but I want no disappointments. Please look the pictures over well before you bid. I'll try to answer any more questions you may have. Tom 1-815-238-3516 A $1000.00 deposit required at the end of the auction by the winning bidder. Shipping arrangement must be made by the purchaser, or can be picked up here in northwestern Illinois by Freeport Il.61032 I will assist where possible.
