Description for Alfa Romeo 164 1992
This absolutely stunning Alfa Romeo 164-S has been in the collection of well knownAtlantaarea Alfa Romeo collectors, enthusiasts and Atlanta AROC past President, W.L. & Carol Wagnon. They are a couple of my closest and best 'Alfa' friends. They have been the care takers of this unique and excellent condition automobile since 1993. For the most part, this car has been an 'occasional' car, largely for drives on sunny days and nice weather.
This car was a 'custom' or 'special order' automobile, commissioned by Gary Tunnicliff, an executive with Alfa Romeo at their American headquarters. It represents a unique color combination that just was not available to the general public. This "S" has a white exterior over a supple tan hide interior with charcoal accents. We believe that all other white 164-S models came from the factory with the stock "S" charcoal gray interior. This car’s VIN is #) ZAREA 33E9N6259608
This car is also unique in that it is lacking one pesky 'standard order' feature; the 'headlight washers'. Before my friends purchased this car (from Todd Spruell at Paul Spruell Alfa), I had complained to the Wagnon’s about the headlight squirters and their propensity to spray the blue windshield/headlight washer solution any time the lights were on.This would eventually leave bluish purple streaks up the hood of my red car. We further believe that this car was ordered with the headlight washers deleted. [Those of you who are familiar with the 164-S will know that this only happens when the side marker or headlights are on and I always drove with my side marker lights on to make the car more visible. Do you think that I could remember to turn the lights off before washing the windshield to remove splattered bugs?]
This 164-S is one of the very nicest, rarest and best kept examples in existence. It is really much, much nicer than the average ‘daily driver’ condition car and would preferably go to a collector with the means and ability to care for and maintain such a unique collector car in its factory original condition. Who am I to make such a bold statement, you may ask? Well, I have owned Alfa Romeo cars (plural) since 1980 (36+ years).I have also served as President of the Atlanta Chapter of the AROC for a couple of terms. My personal 164-S has been awarded an Alfa Romeo Owners Club (AROC) National ‘Best of Class’ Award and our other Alfa Romeo cars have received numerous: 1st place Alfa Romeo, Peoples Choice, Best of Show awards and most recently an 'Automobile of Distinction' at the ‘Atlanta Concours d'Elegance’. This white 'S' is as nice as they come! Unfortunately for me it is much nicer than my red 164-S, previously mentioned.
The Alfa Romeo dealership in Atlanta, Paul Spruell Alfa Romeo, Inc. serviced this car for many years. The car has also been cared for by a factory trained mechanic at AutoDelta inAtlantaand most recently by Road Speed Garage inClevelandGeorgia. This particular car has been driven approximately 1,000 miles per year or less for the last 10 years. It has a nearly new battery that is approximately one year old.TheMichelintires have very little wear, are in excellent condition and are believed to be about 5-6 years old.The timing belt and water pump were both changed within the last 3,000 miles; approximately 4 years ago. The car has a Nardi shift knob a K&N air filter and comes with a spare (5th) "S" wheel. The Olympic tag and magnetic Quadrifoglio can easily be removed if desired. The car comes with its factory tools, books and records.
The Wagnon’s are offering this fine vehicle in order to reduce the size of their Alfa Romeo collection. It runs and drives well and functions like a new 200 horse power Sports Sedan, with all the creature comforts available at the time.As W.L. is fond of saying, “the 164-S will out Alfa, most all other Alfas!” This wonderful Alfa Romeo 164-S is currently in storage and available by appointment only. The Wagnon’s will make this vehicle available for inspection and testing by seriously interested purchasers. Please call cell #)404-276-0553between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. W.L. may answer but be prepared to leave a message so he can return your call with more information and to schedule your viewing.
