Description for Alfa Romeo GTV 1974
This 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV benefits from a recently completed cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment and is powered by a SPICA-injected 2.0-liter inline-four and a 5-speed manual gearbox. Purchased by my brother in the early 1990s, the car was disassembled by him and refinished in its original shade of LeMans Blue (Azzuro Lemans) in 1997. I bought the car from him it its unfinished state around 2009, and finally began to put it back together last year. The car has always been stored inside since the restoration began. The work was completed early this year and the car was returned to the road for the first time in more than 20 years! This GTV is sold with a clean California title in my name. The car is sorted and completed several long drives in the last few months. My brother bought this car in Southern California in the early 1990's and he used it as his daily driver for several years. In the mid-1990s, my brother began performing a restoration that included metal repair of the spare tire well and floorboards. A bare metal glass out repaint in LeMans Blue was completed in 1997, but work stalled after this and the car remained in a disassembled state until 2016.
Within the past 11 months, the car was reassembled and new rubber seals for the doors and rear glass were added. Front and rear bumpers no longer wear their original over-riders, and the side indicators have been filled. The 14” wheels wear older Pirelli P6 tires which should be replaced. The SPICA-injected 2.0-liter twin-cam inline-four benefited from a tune-up, rebuilt thermostatic-actuator, and replacement injection pump belt at Santo’s Italian Car Service in Northridge, California in April 2017. Earlier work performed in 2016 at Santo’s included a $2k overhaul of the fuel system, including removal and cleaning of the fuel tank. Following the mechanical sorting, I rebuilt the brake calipers and added new hoses, pads, front rotors, and flushed the brake system. The driveshaft is supported with a new hanger bearing, and a new guibo was fitted between it and the transmission. The battery is new. The car has new carpet and new door panels. The seats were previously recovered and have no rips or tears, except the piping on the front seats is damaged. The headliner could stand to be replaced. The dash has a dash cap. The car starts easily, does not blow smoke and the transmission is excellent, with none of the usual grinding that is typical for these cars.
I have decided that I prefer my Porsches over the Alfa, and have too many vehicles so this one must go. This car is rust free, and the hard work has been done. You can drive this car now and continue to improve it over time with some minor cosmetics. The paint is 20 years old but looks excellent. There is some wear from storage, which has been touched up. Mileage is currently 82,xxx and the car is driven occasionally so this may increase. In person inspection welcome and I am happy to take the car for a PPI locally. $1000 non-refundable deposit due within 24 hours of auction closing, with balance due in 7 days. Car is sold as-is, without any warranty. Remember, this car is 43 years old. Please perform all inspections and have funds available prior to auction closing. I'm happy to help with shipping, as long as you pay the cost. Please bid to buy, not to play games.
Over 130 photos are available online, but eBay will not allow me to post a link. Please email me for a link to additional photos or with any questions. In response to a few typical questions:- I don't think the mileage is original. I would assume that the 5 digit odometer has rolled over at least once
- The car needs seatbelts. I would also replace the headliner, and touch up some interior trim
- There is some oil leakage that appears to be coming from the engine
- The tires have plenty of tread but they are old and should be replaced
- I have taken this car on several long drives and, once the tires are replaced, I wouldn't hesitate to fly in and drive this car home. It is fully sorted.
