Description for Alfa Romeo GTV 1986
I am selling a classic 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV-6.This is a beautiful car in my favorite color combination - red exterior, tan interior, with original Ricaro seats. It handles extremely well, is very comfortable, and feels very agile on the road, with a "Busso" V6 engine that sounds like no other. Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear called it "the best sounding car ever". This car delivers, and it is a joy to drive. It's also a rare find in the states.
This care has a few issues that you come to expect from any Italian car from the 80s. Second gear requires a steady hand to find, and the car needs new tie-rods in the front. It is still drivable, but the wheels cant inwards and wear more heavily on the inside. It needs new tires, and has some cosmetic rust, though nothing serious underneath (I have added photos of the worst spots). The front driver seat is rough, but the rest of the leather is pristine. The electronics in the steering column also need some attention, as it takes a few tries to start - this is not a problem with the starter, but something with the wiring in the ignition key assembly. I started it yesterday in 29 degree weather after sitting for a few weeks, and it started second try - so its not terrible. Finally, the driver side door handle broke, which is apparently quite common, and you can find them on eBay (and the door still locks and opens just fine).
None of these things are deal breakers at all. The Italians had a singular focus on the engine and drivetrain of their cars, especially in the 80s, and it shows. Everything that is needed to speed down the road is amazing.
I purchased this car as a light project in late 2019, and haven't had enough time to finish it. It has its imperfections, but nothing you love is ever perfect. Its priced accordingly for its condition - cars in cleaner condition routinely go over $40k. It has a clean title.
If you are a buyer in the Columbus, OH area, I have a mechanic who knows the car and can get parts.
This is a classic car I am sorry to get rid of, but I would rather have someone own it who has time to use it, than have it sit unhappily in my garage.
Thanks for looking!
