Description for Alfa Romeo Spider 1971
This is a ONE OWNER car. It was purchased in the Bay area in early 1972 and has only been registered in California and Oregon. Runs great and everything works. The injection pump was recently (March of 2015) completely serviced and adjusted by an Alfa Romeo certified mechanic. It has been serviced by Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo and Veloce Motors in Oregon since 1987. The transmission is smooth with absolutely had no grinding. This is a 1971 1750cc spider. Alfa only built these cars from 1968 (in Europe only) to 1971. There were no 1970 model cars imported to the US in 1970. Although some cars were sold as 1970 cars they were either late 1969 or early 1971 cars. That means this is a very limited production car. The 1750 is a great revving engine. Road and Track test drove a 1971 1750cc and a 1972 2000cc in comparison on a drag strip. They found the two cars had the same elapse times. The 2000cc engine had better torque and was able to get an early lead but the 1750cc revs higher and was able to catch the 2000cc at the end of the 1/4 mile. I prefer to drive the 1750cc because of the high end power. This car comes with a 1987 Alfa Romeo factory HARD TOP. The hard top has a glass rear window and has an electric defroster. It also has an interior light in the rear. This car can easily be wired for these items. The hard top has a full headliner. There is also a Blaupunkt Hollywood casset radio installed in the dash and a 10 DISC CD CHANGER in the trunk. The wheels are American LIBRA alloy. The Sheep skin covers are in excellent condition as are the seats. The seats have no tears or cracks. The dash is perfect with no cracks. Now for the bad news. The paint is very rough. There are faded areas and areas with paint cracks. This is the cars original paint. The pictures don't look as bad as the paint condition is. Be aware it needs minor body work and paint. I counted 6 very small dents and one 6 inch crease in the left front fender. There is also minor surface rust just behind the right front fender down low just ahead of the door. There is also surface rust on the wheel well of the right rear fender. The drivers floor has been repaired and there appears to be no rust under the car. The convertible top needs to be replaced and has small holes in it. The mileage has turned over once and this car has 187. 56 miles. The good news is that everything is stock on the car and is unmolested. With a cosmetic overhaul this could be a show car that is correct and can be entered in Historic Rallies. There is NO Warranty on any of this car. It is AS IS and described. If you need a pre-purchase inspection before taking delivery it is by your arrangement. I will check the car over before it is picked up to insure that all works well as inspected in March of 2015. Bid with confidence that this is a collectible car that is fun to driver right now.
