Description for Alfa Romeo Spider 1981
You are bidding on a gorgeous 1981 Alfa Romeo Spider Kammtail. This vehicle was driven up as is from South Carolina and has been restored so any slight surface rust has been removed from the body and replaced with metal. Having said that there wasn't much rust anyhow but just to be sure the process was watertight. This particular vehicle is a North American model converted to European spec bumpers and side marker lights so its much lighter. It has been a weekend car for my father who is now 70 years old and can no longer drive it because of health issues. These Spiders are disappearing very fast due to poor maintenance and negligence but this one looks great and is ready for a new owner. They don't make cars with this amount of emotion built into them anymore. EXTERIOR The body has been completely restored 5 years ago so the only defects are regular wear and tear which is nominal as it has been cared for. It has been hand buffed and the pictures tell the story. Original Campagnolo wheels. There is a slight surface scratch on the passenger side. a surface scrape on the body behind the left rear bumper. a small 1" tear around the rear window and a slight watermark on the hood area. There are probably a few other minor issues which require close up inspection. INTERIORThe interior has not been restored but looks relatively in good condition except for a 5" crack on top of the dash and a 3" gash in the passenger seat. There are probably a few other minor issues which require close up inspection. ENGINEStrong when it runs however the bad news is that it has been sitting in a garage for a few years so the injection pump has gone bad so it does NOT run presently. From what Alfa Romeo specialist have told me is that it just requires a simple replacement of the old injection pump system which is common with these models. TRANSMISSIONRuns smooth through all gears except when cold 2nd gear can grind a bit but goes away. SUMMARYOverall my father has spent over 15K restoring the vehicle to its present state. Its does not run due to a injection pump which can be replaced without any issues as I have been told by Alfa Romeo specialist. It now needs a new owner who can take it to the next level. The following is what I have been told by an Alfa Romeo specialist on the conversion: "As for the conversion. you should change the injection pump and the intake manifold. If your car has a bosch fuel pump you'll be fine. Also. the injectors are the same for the various years. The '81 injection pump was designed to run lean pretty much throughout the rpm range. The 'hot' ticket according to Wes Ingram is to use a '74 injection pump. The manifold change is to get rid of the single butterfly set-up. This will give you more air input to go with the increased fuel supply. Btw. if you change the manifold. you'll need an air filter housing to go with it. " PLEASE INSPECT VEHICLE IN PERSON BEFORE BIDDING IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OR ASK QUESTIONS. VEHICLE DOES NOT RUN. Buyer must tow vehicle away from pick up location. We have the right to end auction at any time as vehicle is also for sale locally. Thank you. Good luck!
