Description for AMC AMX 1970
A Rare Find—a fully Restored AMX
The AMX from American Motors is a favorite for collectors because it was the only other two seat American sports car of its era (the Corvette being the other marque). An inch shorter and less expensive, he AMX was viewed by much of the trade press as a competitor to the Corvette.
Our 1970 AMX has the following features:
· A Book Full of records/receipts including the 2008 Restoration
· New Paint
· New Upholstery
· 360 V-8 bored to 401
· Automatic Transmission
· Rear window louvers
· Factory Air conditioning already converted to 134A
· CD changer installed in trunk
Great Looking
· Paint and Chrome
This car underwent a bare-metal repaint in original Bittersweet Orange/Frost, nd the 2008 paint looks as new.
The chrome is very nice as is the stainless trim.
· Interior
The seat upholstery was redone in the correct pattern in white and black and looks like new. The door panels are very good as is the carpeting. The dash and instruments are in good cosmetic condition and the instrument package includes a tachometer. The interior wood-graining looks a bit tired. The headliner is as new, aving been replaced during the restoration.
· Engine
This 360 V-8 engine, ebuilt during the car's restoration, as bored to 401 cubic inches. A custom ground cam was installed, nd the heads were ported and polished to increase performance. The AMX has functional air scoops. These cars were known for their power and this particular car doesn't disappoint in that regard.
· Transmission
The 3-speed automatic transmission was rebuilt and operates correctly, aking this sports/muscle car a pleasure to drive.
· Chassis
The underside of this AMX is remarkably clean for a driver, uggesting that it has seen little bad weather. During restoration, he frame portion was sandblasted (on the car) and repainted. It appears to be free of any visible rust or corrosion other than light surface rust (see pictures).
· Safety and Comfort features
The car's front end was rebuilt (tie rods ends and ball joints) which contributes to this AMX's stability. Seat belts provide for additional passenger safety.
All of the safety and accessory features work—lights, urn signals, ipers, xcept for the horn, icense light and dash lights which will need attention. All of the instruments are in good cosmetic condition and work but the "idiot" lights do not. The instrument package includes a tachometer which works.
The factory air conditioning, onverted to 134A, orks but could use a recharge. There is also a CD changer mounted in the trunk.
The rear window louvers add a nice touch to the car's looks.
An Nice Example of the Last and Best Year for the AMX
After a 3-year production run, merican Motors retired the AMX in favor of the larger Javelin. The last year—1970—represented the high-water mark for this two-seater, aking it a highly collectible performance car. With great paint, new interior and a large displacement engine, his fully restored AMX is a rarity. If you've wanted an AMX at a reasonable price, his car is the one to have!
