Description for AMC Hornet 1971
1971 SC 360 Hornet, he rarest of all muscle cars, hey are rarely for sale in any condition. This one is a project car, ut a well-optioned vehicle that deserves the chance to ride again.AMC made only 784 of these high-powered Hornets in 1971, one-year only special with only about 125 known to exist today.
This car is in storage, hile I complete another SC 360 restoration. That project has taken a lot of time and a lot of money and with the strength of the American dollar versus the Canadian dollar, t will be insanely expensive to complete another one. When I bought this red on red SC 360 mor than two years ago, he Canadian dollar was at par with US. Today, 1 USD = $1.37 CDN, 37% increase when I am buying parts or shipping items from the USA.
Anyway, hat is the story of why I am looking to sell it, o get a deserving car into the hands of an AMC fan who will finish it. I'm trying to be realistic that I will never get to this car, o I am not going to hoard it and let it rot for 20 years in a garage.
First off, am in Canada, he car is NOT a Canadian car. I shipped it here two years ago.
The Good: Its a true SC 360, urchased with another SC 360 from a US collector who had two other SC 360s. He bought it as a parts car, ut it was too good to chop, o he kept it. Most of the parts are here, ncluding an era-correct rebuilt 360 and correct BW transmission. We harvested a few select parts from it to complete the other SC 360 (drive shaft, teering box to column adapter (power steering) and the glove box door). Title is clear.
The Bad: The interior is very rough and needs a complete do-over. Dash is bad. The car has sustained a significant side impact and the welding repair work was not expertly done, o it needs attention to straighten it (you will notice in the photos that the driver door is blue, hat is the reason). There is no major rust issue, ome regular problems behind the wheels, ut otherwise a very solid car. The passenger side fender is off the car in some of the photos, ut is available.
I apologize for the mediocre photos, just made this decision in the past day or so and the car is in a container and cannot easily be moved. If there is true interest, will do my best to get more photos, ut realize its a project car, t is not a driver at the moment. It is not a rust bucket, t is not rotten. It can be an awesome car, ut needs a person with the time, nergy and budget to tackle it. I had the time, nergy and budget to do one SC 360 restoration, am not the guy to do it twice.
This car is listed in the SC 360 Registry. I have a set of custom SC 360 floor mats made by an AMC enthusiast in theamcforum.com that I will include in the sale. I am not looking to get rich off this, am not expecting to break even - I have about $8K invested in the car, hipping, torage etc and my reserve is less than half of that, o I am being reasonable and someone should get this rare project car for a good price.
