This early production (number 3 of the first 10 produced) 1969 AMC SC/Rambler-Hurst first served as a test and press/promotional car for AMC. It was then sold by Jeffries AMC in Rockford, Illinois to the original owner (a resident of Rockford, Illinois) on July 17, 1970. That original owner sold the car to owner #2 a year later. Owner #3 purchased the SC/Rambler in 1975 and kept it in Illinois for 18+ years before selling it to owner #4, based in Minnesota. The SC/Rambler was restored while under the ownership of owner #4 and then sold to an AMC enthusiast in Arizona in 2005 (owner #5) before making its way to Fox Motorsports in 2007. Fox Motorsports has been in contact recently with three of the previous owners and confirmed the restoration details from owner #4, further details of the SC/Rambler’s history, and confirmed that the miles are accurate.
The build sequence number, E059107, shows a February 2 through February 7th, 1969 production on the east assembly line at the Kenosha, Wisconsin plant. AMC didn’t officially show the SC/Rambler-Hurst car to the public until the Chicago Auto Show in March of 1969. The first 10 SC/Rambler-Hurst examples were sent to noted AMC engine tuner/builder and racer H. L. Shahan in Los Angeles, California in early 1969 for preparation as press cars.These 10 cars were used for test drives and road tests by the leading automotive publications. Car and Driver magazine’s road test followed in the May issue of 1969, with Road and Track magazine publishing their test report in the June 1969 issue.
This SC/Rambler-Hurst starts, runs, and drives exceptionally well and has been fastidiously maintained by Fox Motorsports for nearly 10 years. The exterior is in excellent condition with superb factory “A” configuration (scheme) paint. The engine features the “Group 19” aluminum Edelbrock R-4B intake manifold including the correct stamped AMC part number. The ignition has been upgraded to a modern electronic setup and the engine is currently fitted with exhaust manifolds. The interior retains the original seats, striped headrests, door panels, dash, gauges, Sun tachometer, headliner, glass, and seat belts. The carpet has been updated and two auxiliary gauges for water and oil temperature have been mounted under the dash.
In addition to annual fluid servicing, Fox Motorsports recently replaced the heater core with a NOS 1969 core, rebuilt the Holley carburetor (re-plated and refinished as-new), and replaced the fuel lines and fuel pump. Included with the car are the original owner ID card, original owner’s manual, period correct warranty manual, period correct plastic AMC Motors document sleeve, and service records.
