Description for AMC Gremlin 1974
1974 AMC Green GremlinOk AMC fans I'm selling 2 cars out of my collection so someone else can enjoy these beautiful American Motors Classics...and free me up space to get more. The cars are a 1974 Gremlin and a 1978 Matador Barcelona Edition. I emphasize "Green" in the title because in my mind, that is the ideal color for these vehicles. There has not been one time I have taken this car out without someone stopping me with a "I had a Gremlin" story, a thumbs up, wave, or honk with a big smile and laugh. (Not sure if they're laughing at or with me, but it's all good)
The original owner of the vehicle (Robert Geer) purchased the car new from Tanner-Deen Motors in Albany GA. He passed in the early 90's and willed the car to his daughter and son in law who drove the car for a while before parking it. After sitting for 2 years they decided to sell it and that's when I bought it, making me the 3rd owner. This is a southern car and has lived in GA and TN. Comes with original documentation and clear title.
The car is a 232 IL6 with an automatic transmission, working AC (needs r12), 8 track player, am/fm radio. The exterior has typical rust spots in the quarters and spot above the drivers side rear wheel (seen in pictures). Underneath has some surface rust but still in good condition (pictured above). All emblems are there along with trim, chrome, and luggage rack. All glass is there with one crack in the front windshield. Interior, the front seats have spots that have been sun faded but are not ripped or torn, very much intact. The dash and cluster are in great shape and all gauges work as they should, notice the original green Gremlin esque dash lights, also has wipers along with working spray nozzles. Does have the original green spare tire cover along with spare and jack kit.
The original 232 6 cylinder is one of the best things about this car. It's very smooth and has more than enough power pull around this small car, no trouble cruising at 70. On startup there is some initial smoke at the muffler but dissipates after a few seconds. It could use a carb/choke adjustment because sometimes it takes a second turn of the key to start. Things I've done to the car include
*Replaced valve cover gasket*Repainted valve cover original color (AMC Blue)*New plugs and wires*Installed new radiator (have original)*New battery*Replaced some fuel lines and fuel filter*Repainted air cleaner and added a 232 decal for original look
One of my favorite things about this car is the 8-track player. When I bought the car it came with some 8 track tapes and case. It has the classic, mostly treble low low bass sound which really completes the driving experience. I will include all tapes and case unless you do not want them. Here is the list of the music.
*CCR - More Credence Gold*ZZ Top - Fandango*Jethro Tull - Best Of*Journey - Infinity*Lynyrd Skynyrd - First & Last*John Denver - Poems, Prayers, and Promises*Eagles - Hotel California*Ronnie Milsap - Greatest Hits*Steve Miller Band - Greatest Hits*Waylon Jennings - Dreaming My Dreams*Neil Diamond - Greatest Hits*The Marshall Tucker Band - Greatest Hits*Hank Williams Sr. - Greatest Hits*CCR- Live in Europe*Bob Seger - Night Moves*Atlanta Rhythm Section - Champagne Jam*Elvis - Gold Award Hits*Billy Joel - The Stranger*Jackson Browne - Running On Empty*Electric Light Orchestra - OLE ELO*Eagles - One Of These Nights*Alice Cooper - Greatest Hits*Fleetwood Mac - Rumours*Blackfoot - Strikes*Bad Company - Straight Shooter
Pretty sweet list in my opinion.
