Description for AMC Other 1982

I've never had an issue selling anything on eBay, but for whatever reason,non-paying bidders must be attracted to this car....over the past month, it's hit reserve 3 times and the excuses for not completing the sale are as follows: 1) "I was on vacation, someone must've hacked into my account", 2) "My grandson bid on my account, he doesn't have any money", and 3) "I was drinking at a family get together, alcohol and eBay don't mix".......e-mail me for their id's, I'll gladly hand them out, they should be banned from eBay for life.....and of course, sellers can't leave negative feedback for lousy bidders, what a great concept, wouldn't want to scare thoseguy from bidding!! I reallywant to sell this car and want it to go to a good home!! Please do not bid if you don't intend to follow through!

So one last time before cruising season is over, here's a 1982 AMC Concord Pro Street/Surf Wagon, it’s on the road and driveable, licensed and insured, but I’m calling it a project car that is nearly completed, just needing your finishing touches. Dare to be different!! This is an original paint wagon that a previous owner had professionally back-halved and caged to drag race. It was raced in the 90's in the Midwest. A lot of the drag racing components are still on the car. I can’t take the credit or blame for anything in the drivetrain or chassis, other than I had a new center section built for the Ford 9". I bought it approximately 80% complete with the intention of making it fully street legal, but lack of time is preventing me from finishing it. It’s probably 95% complete now, I drive it daily when the weather is good, it's garaged and hasn't seen rain since I've owned it. My loss is your gain. Cruise as-is now and then fully complete to your likingover the winter to have done in time for next spring. Here are the details:

Body:

  • All original steel except lift off race weight cowl hood, wrapped in woodgrain to match the side panels. Hood is held on with Dzus fasteners.

  • Paint is original AMC Topaz Gold Metallic, I’d rate it a 7 out of 10, it’s still waxable, buthas some chips, small dings, etc.

  • All trim is installed on car

  • All glass is good, side windows all roll up and down

  • Lights, turn signals, dash lights all work

  • Rear back half is done nicely with a complete subframekit from Competition Engineering or equivalent, ladder bar, coilovers, panhard bar, etc. Large fuel cell under rear floor accessed through panel in rear.

  • Factory roof rack, and 2 decent surfboards complete the appearance

  • Lettering is all vinyl and can be removed if the advertising isn’t your thing

Interior:

  • Nice 8 point roll bar with tip out bars

  • Original door panels, headliner, dash pad, etc.

  • Seats are great, no rips or tears.

  • Good carpet, door sill plates, etc.

  • Retains most of factory wiring, key warning buzzer and dome light still work

  • Cheetah SCS shifter

    Drivetrain:

  • Starting in the front, there is a custom built PermaCool Radiator and Optima battery. Starts great, never overheats, runs at 185 degrees in traffic on a hot day.

  • Motor - I was told it’s a 350 Chevy, I never bothered to check, it runs great, has some drips, has the usual bolt-ons, Edelbrock intake, headers, and cam, Flowmasters. Still has the orginal Quadrajet that works perfectly. The air cleaner lid and valve covers have been hydrodipped to match rest of woodgrain theme.

  • Turbo 350 with shift kit, works great

  • Rear end is a narrowed 9” Ford posi, ladder bar, coilovers, shortened 31 spline axles and new 4.11 Richmond gears, new Yukon TracLok differential, bearings, seals, etc.

  • Electric Fuel pump

Miscellaneous:

  • Matching Weld Wheels: 15 x 4 with Goodyear Frontrunners, 15 x 15 and 15.5/29 Mickeys in the rear

  • Manual steering box, Manual front disc, drum brakes with new hardware in rear

  • Competition Engineering adjustable drag shocks in front

  • Clear title in my name.

  • I have a complete shop manual set, owners manual, paint chip chart, and a few other small items to go with the car.

Still Needs:

  • Needs a horn and wipers to pass NYS inspection, I did install an e-brake setup using Ford and aftermarket cables. I have a horn kit to install.Everything is there for the wipers, probably just needs power to dash switch.

  • Street legal front tires, a pair of skinny cheap blackwall radials would do it!

  • Although it drives reasonably well and tracks straight, probably could stand a 4 wheel alignment to make sure everything is square.

  • While the roll cage is nice, the side bars may need a re-design to pass tech if you plan on putting it on the track

  • 5 point harness is out of date

  • The usual odds and ends to complete to your satisfaction

The fine print – There are no warranties implied or expressed, this is being sold as-is, where-is. I’m listing this car to sell it, once it meets reserve, your bid is a binding contract. If you are the top bidder above reserve, you own it. I expect a $500 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of auction end via Paypal or wire transfer. The balance must be paid within 7 days or the car will be re-listed. The balance must either be a wire transfer, cash, or a cleared bank check. The car will not leave the garage until all funds have cleared and are in my account. Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements, payments, etc. I can help load car on trailer. The car must be trailered from my driveway, I wouldn’t recommend driving it home unless you are local. If you are new to eBay, 5 or less feedbacks or have recent negative feedback, your bid will be immediately canceled unless you contact me first with your name, address, and phone number prior to bidding. I will call you to verify your intent and ability to complete the transaction. I strongly encourage you to come look, hear it run, and drive it, prior to bidding. The car is located in central NY, about an hour south of Syracuse. It can be viewed weekday evenings and weekend days. Feel free to contact me to ask questions prior to bidding. Check my feedback as a seller for comments from previous sales and bid with confidence, thanks for your time and good luck, Mike

Have had a bunch of questions that were previousouly asked about the car:

1) Can I put an AMC motor in it? Sure, the motor mount positions for the original 258 6 banger are still there, so however you convert to a V8 AMC motor would still work, or you could install it with motor plates like the current motor. This has had both big and small block Chevys in it at some point. Ditto on going back to a Torqueflite or whatever goes behind an AMC motor.

2) Can I put an original hood on it? Sure, same story the hood hinge mounting holes are still there, you'd need 2 hinges,a Topaz Gold metallichood, and the latch hardware for a more stock look.

3) Can I put a back seat in it? The only choice you'd have here is a custom fabricated kiddie seat to go between the roll bar down tubes.

4) Does it smoke, overheat, burn oil, use coolant, etc, etc.? No to all......the motor is pretty mild but extremely reliable, doesn't smoke cold or hot, use coolant, etc., etc.

4) Would you consider trades? Sure, worst I can say is "no thank you", but I will trade up or down.
