Description for AMC Javelin 1970

1970 Javelin SST; Go Pack; Big Bad Green; 401 CID; Auto; 3.91 Posi; Hi-Perf

"Do Not miss this Opportunity" Many High-Performance items in the details below;

Please see signed2016 appraisal in the Photos section, also see additional pictures below;

This car has great potential as an excellent core for the current plan as a Resto-Mod or a quality numbers matching original. This car was originally equipped with a 390 CID, Automatic w/Air Conditioning. The A/C system was removed except for under dash assembly, vents and controls. The original transmission was replaced with the stronger late model 727 Torqueflite and modified for High Performance including a high stall converter. The original Engine Block, Heads and Crank etc. are available separately.

Pictures are showing the original Big Bad Green paint and black C-Stripes. The prior owner claimedthat the engine bay and door jambs were retouched.Please note that production figures are not recorded for a 1970 Javelin SST with the Big Bad Green paint. It should be reasonable to conclude thatbased on 68 & 69 Javelin and 68, 69 & 70 AMX numbers, that production was low, maybe a couple hundred at most! Production figures show 19714 total in SST trim produced; 2730 of them with 390-V8 and part of those in auto-transmissions

The last 48 years of the usual nicks, scratches, dings etc. are present. I believe it to be a great "20-Footer!" (This is Nota Show Car) Minor rust is present in the usual places and “untouched” providing unobstructed inspection. Most of the minor rust is behind rear wheels on lower fenders and is still solidly backed, however other suspect areas are rust free, like the undercarriage and front fender troughs. In the time I’ve owned it, the car saw warm dry storage during winter and harsh weather conditions. Last winter the car saw its first cold storage winter. History believed to be originally purchased in California, saw Denver CO, CT, Albany NY and now central MN.

The drivability of the car is fun for knowledgeable experienced drivers and demands respect. Automatic Transmission is operated through a B&M Mega Shifter with a reverse pattern. The shift sequence is manual only and sequential up and down with reverse lockout. Electric Fuel pump on/off switch is independent from ignition. Brakes are manual (Power vacuum module was removed) and requires additional leg pressure. Setup, components are meant for performance business. (This is not an easy cruising vehicle)

My “In progress” mechanical list includes; a) Improving braking, maybe a new proportioning valve and or restoring Power module. b) Front of car starts a vibration above 65 mph; Isolated vibration to front spindle & hub / bearing miss-match, haven’t decided what to do. c) Electric fuel pump makes lite noise, but noise increases, is inconsistent and seems to be heat buildup related from proximity to exhaust and or it could be inadequate grounding. Tried solutions including a rebuild, heat shielding and improving rubber mount isolation. I was always intending to go with electronic fuel injection and thought this would dissolve along with “d” d) Carburetor fuel bowl needles leak with any pressure above ½-psi. e) As many do, the interior dash pad has curled up. f) Headliner fabric separated from shell and was removed. g) Dash panel separation near glove box. h) Replaced passengers window trim felt and door pull but still have not replaced drivers side yet, have the parts. i) Fine Tuning next; Once decided on fuel octane, timing check and adjustment, setting thermostat for new fans, etc.
