Description for AMC Other 1965

1965 AMC Rambler Classic 770 Convertible Location:Acton. Massachusetts 01720Trans:AutoCondition:ExcellentExterior:BrownInterior:Brown and GoldDescription:1965 Rambler classic 770 straight 6 232 cubic inch engine. I have various show awards and it is on Wikipedia http://en. m. wikipedia. org/wiki/Rambler_Classic (It is the brown one). It is also an extra in the Whitey Bulger movie called Black Mass starring Johnny Depp:http://www. imdb. com/title/tt1355683/ and the photo is from the set of the movie (the scene is where millionaire Roger Wheeler was shot to death in the parking lot of his country club in Tulsa. Oklahoma). I put about $4. 00 for all new brakes new tires and general upkeep. I have the original window sticker (see the photos). The 1965 Rambler cost $3. 29. 85 and includes a $5. 30 left-side mirror. The owners manual and a repair manual. as well as some advertisements from the dealer are included too. There is no rust on the body. the car is always garaged. it always starts and runs great. The engine is in one of the photos. The interior upholstory has been replaced and is in very good condition. There are original retractable seat belts in front (a $7. 50 extra in 1965). I added 2 for safety in the back. I put new tires and had all 4 drums replaced. A slow drip from the transmission is the only annoying but minor problem with the car. Oh. and if you know Ramblers. the clocks never work. I even tried to buy a new one from a parts dealer and I asked if it worked and he said "No". The convertible top is in excellent condition. but I hardly ever put it up. as the car has been garaged since I bought it. I only drive it on sunny days. The car comes from an AMC dealer in Pennsylvania (Robert Young and Sons. Easton. PA) who kept 3-4 AMC cars in his garage after the dealership closed in 1988. I bought it in 2006 and drove it 300 miles up to Boston. I take the car to shows or just out for fun. It is meant to be driven. in my opinion. and many people at the shows tell me stories of owning one or being a kid in the family Rambler. Some Updates and Improvements:My mechanic. an antique car lover. performed in 2006:Thank you for considering us for your antique car restoration needs. We have extensive experience at this kind of work and enjoy the opportunity to handle such a nice well kept car. We have expertise in a wide variety of antique and special interest car restoration and rehabilitation. and can custom tailor a project to your expectations and budget. Your 1965 Rambler has a 232 cu in straight 6 cyl engine and an automatic transmission. with power a steering and brakes. It is in very solid condition throughout with no rust or corrosion visible. It does not have the original finish. but the sheet metal appears to be intact. The powertrain and engine compartment have been detailed and has had a lot of cosmetic attention. done to it. The paint is excellent. The chrome is excellent. What is required to make it fully safe and operable are a series of mechanical issues that you identified. plus a few things that our inspection has uncovered. First. here are the things that you requested we evaluate. 1) Power Steering leak. Both hoses are leaking. the return side and the pressure side. Replacing both is required………………………. $3652) Scraping noise from brakes. The brakes (drum front & rear) are in need of significant work. The front brakes are in need of replacement wheel cylinders and hoses for leakage. You might as well replace the shoes as they have to come off anyway. We can machine the drums. The rear brakes appear to have had an amateur. brake job with incorrect lines installed. Only one rear wheel is operating. We will need to replace the shoes. drums. and cylinders and fabricate brakes lines. $998. 3) Check tires for aging & cracking. The tires are fairly late model B F Goodrich whitewall radials. and they are 50% worn. They have sustained accelerated wear from the worn suspension parts. Replacing them after the suspension work is recommended. but optional. Mounted and balanced a set of 4 new tires would be…………………………………………. $315. 4) Install front springs. supplied by you. This is a labor only operation. The type of suspension in this car is an unusual system and it is a labor intensive. dangerous operation requiring the springs to be compressed in the vehicle prior to removal. We estimate 5 hours per side. With new front shocks installed during this operation the total cost will be………. $1. 00. 5) Replace customer supplied Transmission pan gasket. Your pan gasket is leaking. but you have a second more serious leak from the an O-ring gasket at the transmission cable orifice. which is above the pan. To get to the o-ring. we have to remove the valve body from inside the transmission. Total cost for both is……………………………………………. $650. 6) Engine stalls cold. There are two issues underneath this problem. A) you need a carburetor overhaul and B) your choke's bi-metallic spring is cracked and not operating. The cost to rebuild your carburetor and replace your choke element will be…………………………………………… $588. Additional concerns identified in our inspection process:7) Front radius arm bushings are worn out. causing steering and handling deficiencies. Most of the work to fix this is labor included in the front spring replacement……………………………………………………. $2008) Differential cover is leaking 90 weight oil. Need replace gasket. Including new oil…………………………………………………………. $131. 9) Both fan belts are glazed……………………………………. $8510) Flush cooling system to remove sediment…………………. $89. The total for all the work outlined above. if you wish to do it all would be $4. 06 plus tax. Estimates for work done on antique vehicles are true estimates. It is prudent to anticipate some cost overruns due to the unique characteristics of the engineering and parts availability that we encounter. Nevertheless. we do a solid volume of this kind of work and are highly expert at it. Our pricing reflects both our experience with similar undertakings and the judgment & wisdom that arise from having done a lot of it. We understand the difficulty in finding an organization who will be willing to undertake this sort of work. and pride ourselves at making things happen that other dealers run away from. Pick UpYou can pick it up from my garage. but I would recommed a trailer unless you live close. Serious buyers can test drive it. Price: $22. 00 firm
