Description for AMC Javelin 1972
Vehicle DetailsLet’s just be clear before I describe this car. It kills me to sell this…… I Lost storage (sold my parents house). So I’m selling her before winter hits.
This is my super rare 1972 AMC Javelin SST Pierre Cardin edition.
Drivetrain- Underneath the hood she is a beast. Earlier 390 motor, .30 ove, Crane fireball cam, headman headers, on tap Nitrous (button is attached to the shifter). Electric fuel pump, Mallory one piece distributor. I had the engine pulled and rebuilt and repainted about 3 years ago. I might have put 600-700 miles on it since the rebuild. Only driven Locally around the neighborhood on Sunday mornings. I never used the nitrous after the rebuild. So if you plan on using it, replace the bottle, it’s been sitting there for a long time. It’s kept nice and cool thanks to a 4 core aluminum radiator with a duel fan (stays between 176 and 183) that I put in last year. And also by an external oil cooler radiator . I believe it’s mated to a 727 torque command Automatic transmission. The rear is a 12 bolt AMC20 with 3:55 that were recently installed about 2 years ago. She is turn key and ready to go. And she goes fast. Guy I purchased the car from said it ran mid 10’s . Probably a tad slower since I lowered the gears in the rear from 4:11 to 3:55 . But it drives so much better. It’s A lot more streetable.
Interior - The original Pierre Cardin interior is all there. It’s a little faded and some staining. But there’s no rips and it looks good. The Tic Tac Toe dash is fully functional. Rpm and speedo work. Gas gauge works. The oil pressur, voltage and Temp gauges were disconnected and now there’s digital gauges underneath, all lights work. Directionals work. Gauge lamps work. The AM/FM radio works. The blower motor (for the heater) works. Windshield wipers work. Even the seat belt buzzer light occasionally goes on if you don’t click in. The horn doesn’t work (hey no one’s perfect).
The exterior - The body needs (and deserves) a full restoration. This was a 1/4 mile drag car back in the 80’s. The guy I purchased from pulled it out of a barn in Maine and got her running. She’s solid frame wise . But the 1/4 rear panels have cancer bubbling through. There’s a bondo crack on the driver front 1/4. Bubbling under the vinyl roof. She’s gonna need body work. The bumpers are pitted and have rust. The Grille is in great shape. The tail lights look good. There is one small crack in them. The Front hood bows a little. A past owner Probably tapped something years ago. Can’t notice from the pic, but I notice.
I personally like the way she looks. Kinda has a Mad Max / Road Warrior Apocalyptic feel to her. I don’t care if she gets a door ding here or there. Cause I’m gonna blow you away on the track.
She’s pre 1973. So she will come with a Transferable Vermont Registration .
But with the way AMC cars are rising in price, she’s one hell of a candidate for a full rotisserie restoration.
