Description for Austin Healey 3000 1967
My beautiful ice blue 1967 Austin Healey is being offered to a new home. This is a numbers matching all original car of which I am the 4th owner, It was commissioned on April 15, 1967 in Columbus Mississippi and has been in that state or Alabama for its entire life. I retain the original Owners Handbook and Commission plate, along with a Road and Track magazine with a review of the Healey 3000.I am a profession automotive shop owner and Healey specialist. I restored this car. It was in good working order but basically just used in 2001 when I bought it. It did not require restoration but it deserved one. The last picture shows how it looked in 2001.
I sympathetically restored it returning every nut bolt and washer I could to it's original location whenever possible after thorough cleaning of course. I tried to not over-restore it but to build it in original colors and sheen. One exception is the base coat clear coat that covers ALL of the sheet metal, even the underside. The paint was matched to the paint color under the dash pad which had not seen sunlight. The restoration was completed in 2006. Since then I have driven from the Birmingham area to Pensacola and Chattanooga quite a few times as well as regular use of about 1000 miles a year. This car hass proven as reliable as it is beautiful.
Last year I rebuilt the engine again because I had the cam ground for higher performance and it really was something however the company did not harden it enough and it became noisy. I installed .020 over pistons, but a stock camshaft on this rebuilt that was done about 200 miles ago, a rear crankshaft seal was installed. This engine does not leak.
I have extensive photographs of before, during and after the restoration as well as a notebook with all receipts.
I really do not wish to part with the vehicle, but with my second child entering University this year and business concerns it seems the right thing to do.
Because the vehicle was completed in 2006 and driven it has some "patina" but looks like a 1 or 2 year old car.. I am aware that folks with money to buy a Healey like this can get one "done yesterday," but I believe a vehicle should be used as it is dynamic art not static art. If you want to enjoy all of the '60's dynamics with reliability, buying a car that has been proven is a good choice.
Some details:
- retains positive ground- all systems work
- paint is fantastic and deep and changes character in different light
- Driving lamps are added with relay. Switch is hidden- A fan has been added under the car to take heat out of the engine compartment when driving in the 90 degree heat in Alabama. It does prevent vapor lock.It is installed also with a relay. The original style replacement wiring harness has not been compromised.
This vehicle may be offered elsewhere and I reserve the right to end the listing if it sells.
I am going to offer it as a pure auction with reserve, please do not ask what the reserve is. I think I have a realistic fair market reserve, so it probably will not go for 1/2 to 2/3 of its value which is usually the dream of eBay bidders, (including me). Just stating that so serious buyers consider this car, because I do not HAVE to sell it at a fire sale yet.
All offers must be from bidders with some history. I reserve the right to refuse any bidder with bad or no history. A deposit of 10% of the sale price must be made within 2 days of winning, preferably through PayPal.
While the vehicle is as described, it is sold without warranty. It can be inspected at my shop by prospective buyers or certified appraisers. Vehicle will only be released when funding has cleared.
