Description for Austin Mini 1972
This 1972 Austin Mini was purchased in the UK by my Son while he was stationed there in the Air Force and brought back when he returned. Unfortunately it had engine problems and sat idle for quite a while until I could get to repairing it. It is a British spec car – right hand drive. While in the UK. the original 883 engine was replaced with the A+ 1275 engine that is now in the car. and the center exit exhaust was installed after that. Now. the car runs and drives well. The Florida title shows the car with actual miles on the odometer. The engine has now been totally rebuilt – all new: - pistons- rings - bearings - valve guides - spark plugs - distributor rotor and cap - water pump - timing chain tensioner - thermostat - thrust washer The block was reconditioned at the machine shop. as was the head. The valve seats are for unleaded fuel. A new clutch disk. pressure plate and throw out bearing were installed during the rebuild. as were a new clutch slave cylinder and lines. Both the brake and clutch master cylinders were replaced with the new clear plastic reservoir versions. A new heavy duty (3 core) radiator was installed to insure it can handle the heat of South Florida. For the brakes. all new wheel cylinders and flex hoses were installed in 3 of the four wheels – should have replaced the 4th even though there were no problems with that individual wheel. The fuel tank had developed rust internally while it sat idle. so it was completely reconditioned inside and out. to include a new pick-up and sending unit. Also residing in the trunk is a new battery. The wiper motor and wiper blades are all new. There was very little rust to repair when the repaint process began – what little there was. was cut out and new metal put in its place. The floor pans are very solid with no real rust to deal with (surface only). The interior of the car was completely repainted in black to allow any color change – originally the car was completely orange inside and out. As is shown in the photos. the color change on the outside is to a white roof. black window area. and blue bottom. New wheel flares and trim was installed. I put the Union Jack decal on the roof – it can be removed if the new owner of the car does not want it. The wheels have been repainted with black centers and silver outer rings. There are a few things that will need to be done by the new owner – new tires. The current tires are cracked from dry rot. Also. I did not replace any of the suspension parts. so I would recommend that these be addressed as well. Additional photos can be made available to show the current condition of the car. as well as those of the restoration process.
