Description for Bentley Other 1952
Rolls Royce and Bentley have been known to produce some of the highest quality and most extravagant motorcars on the face of the earth since the beginning of the automobile. When World War II was on the horizon Rolls Royce was forced to switch their focus and production entirely to aero engine manufacturing, but post-war there was still a part of Rolls Royce that had a desire to continue motorcar production. The result was the the Bentley Mark VI (Rolls Silver Dawn to follow in 1949). The Mark VI would be the very first car Rolls Royce/Bentley had ever offered with factory built coachwork. Previously a customer would buy a chassis and then commission coachwork to be built by an outside coachbuilder. The all-steel production body was officially designated as theStandard Steel Saloon. Pressed Steel Ltd. produced the panels, and the cars were then assembled and trimmed in house. Mechanically, the Mark VI shared a good deal in common with the aborted pre-war Mark V, including independent front suspension on a sturdy chassis and a 4.25-litre inline-six. Late in 1951, a 4 1/2 liter version of the Mark VI engine was introduced with an increased bore from 3 1/2 inch to 3 5/8 inch making more power than earlier cars. A wonderfully designed exterior with a very well performing chassis. The Mark VI was instantly popular and brought Rolls Royce/Bentley away from the war years and led them later into designing the infamous S1 in the 1950's.
Serial #B482NZ is a very well taken care of 1952 "Big Bore" Mark VI finished in a two tone color scheme of cream and brown. Coming to us from a long time ownership by a long time Rolls Royce and Bentley enthusiast and long time member of the RROC. Having participated on many RROC events, mechanically it is in tip top shape having had regular mechanical maintenance making driving a real pleasure. Cosmetically it wears an older restoration, but well kept and showing a very slight amount of age which gives this Mark VI just the right amount of charm. The wonderful tan connolly leather on the inside accents the very handsome exterior colors of the car. If you are looking for a well sorted Mark VI that you can open the large sunroof and leisurely drive with pleasure, this is the car for you. Contact us for more information.
