Description for BMW 2002 1969
This 1969 BMW 2002 is a rare early automatic in remarkably original and intact condition. This was a one owner vehicle until I bought it in September to begin a restoration. It was owned by a doctor in the high desert of Bend Oregon. The odometer reads 03269 which I assume is 103, 69. I was told it did not go around twice, nbsp;which of course I can't confirm although the doctor's son said this was his daily commuter on a short commute and that was its primary use. It was always garaged and babied until the later years before the old gentleman passed away. In the last couple years it the doc banged it a couple of times entering and exiting his garage and then it sat in the garage for a couple years, ut was started up regularly by his son who I bought the car from. The interior is perfect - no cracks in the dash, o missing detail, he headliner is showroom perfect. Even the ashtray was untouched. I had new German horsehair pads professionally installed in the front seats that had sagged with age. I had very tasteful 3-point seat belts installed in front and back for safety. That's the only thing that is not original and I felt was necessary. The original German wool carpet is in good condition, ut musty and I had planned to replace with new German wool carpet from World Upholstery for a few hundred dollars before I decided to move on to a new project. The rubber trunk seal is new and the sun roof works perfectly. I had the heater box cleaned out of an old mouse nest and the heater core cleaned and tested. The heat works great now.
The engine was professionally rebuilt, ew Weber carb, rakes and bearings are all new a long list of parts and restoration by one of the best BMW shops in Portland at a nearly $7K price tag.
The body has zero rust and is perfectly straight. It has a front passenger side dent that bent the bumper and grill a rear driver quarter panel dent. I have an original 1969 replacement grill ready to go on after you do the body work and all the chrome trim is still on the car. You will have to decide on the bumpers whether to get a new set or restore the current ones. If you live in Oregon, ou get the really nice vintage Oregon license plates
It runs and drives beautifully. It's quick and handles great with tight steering. I spend more time talking to people who stop me to drool over the car than driving it however. Finish up the interior with a new carpet set and do the body work and this will be an $20K time capsule.
Ask questions, his is a vintage car auction so of course the sale is as-is and final. I will assist with your auto shipper. For sale locally as well so I reserve the right to end the auction at any point if it sells locally. $500 due immediately and the blance due via a bank check due 3 business days later via overnight mail (I will cover that cost).
