Description for BMW 2002 1973
1973 BMW 2002 RoundieMalaga Red on Black & Tan You are bidding on a great example of a 1973 BMW 2002 Roundie! Malaga Red. Black Interior. Tan Carpet. This car was originally located in Indianapolis. Indiana and had been sitting for a number of years in a temperature controlled warehouse when I found it. The story behind the car is it was originally purchased by an Indiana University professor and then sold to the person I purchased the car from. A two owner car. The car was in great shape. and though it had some areas of rust. the rust was extremely limited. The area above the rear shock tower in the trunk. the floors. and other common areas were in exceptional condition. The interior on the car was awesome! The seats. as you will see. are in perfect condition. The carpet is exceptional and even the floor mats are in perfect shape. The odometer reads just under 41. 00 miles and though I can't verify if that is original it sure seems to be since the interior had very little wear. The car was even sitting on its original tires when I bought it. Lastly. no sign of prior accident damage after thorough review. I bought the car and trailered it to the shop. The car had been sitting for some time due to it not running correctly. Come to find out it needed a clutch as well as other items. Once at the shop. we started the process of performing a light restoration on the car. The car received a number of needed repairs. We. at 911 Sportscars. performed the following: New plugs. wires. and valve adjustment Retuned the carburetor Replaced the valve cover gasket Changed the oil and coolant Lowered the front suspension slightly for a better stance Rebuilt the entire front suspension & replaced all bushings Rebuilt the rear suspension & all bushings Replaced the wheel bearings Replace the front brake rotors. calipers. & pads Refurbished the rear drums. repuilt the rear brakes & installed new rear brake shoes Rebuilt & replaced all the brake linesReplaced the master cylinder Replaced the clutch with a new Sachs clutch Replaced the clutch slave cylinder Mounted & balanced new tires on all wheels including the spare Performed a front alignment & corrected all other little tasks during that needed attention during the process Misc parts were sandblasted & repainted Fresh undercoating The license plate light lenses are missing in the photos. They will be included with the car. They are on order and have not arrived. Once the car was mechanically correct. I decided to make the car cosmetically correct. It is such a great car. I wanted it to look as great as it ran. That said. I chose to repair the minimal rust that was located in usual corners of the doors and fenders. I had the rust cut out and repaired correctly. At the same time. I also decided to delete the side moldings. weld the mounting holes. and clean up the side profile of the car. After the body repairs were completed. the car was refinished in the factory color. Malaga Red. Once out of the body shop. I wet sanded & buffed the entire car to give it that "wet" look we all want on our classic cars. I also decided to repaint the vintage 320 Alpina style wheels to Gold Metallic to offer a different. more time period correct look. It turned out great! My intent was to correct the rust on the car. correct all the mechanical issues. and get the car back on the road. Build a car that is perfectly imperfect. Not a trailer queen. Rather a high quality driver that you. the vintage car enthusiast. can enjoy at any car show. cars & coffee gathering. or BMW club event. Happy bidding!
