Description for BMW 3.0CSI 1972
1972 BMW 3.0CSI finished in Chamonix White over blue interior. A three owner car that was imported to the US in 1982 and in long term ownership from 1986-2013 when I purchased the car. The prior owner drove the car sparingly and showed the car at BMW car club events winning numerous awards. With 138,000 Kilometers on the odometer, he car shows beautifully as an unmolested, ell cared for mostly original survivor.
Condition report:
-Paint is uniform in color, howing no cracking, hipping or fading. Body panel fit is excellent with factory correct gaps. There is no evidence of prior damage or panel replacement. The rocker skins are the correct satin color and are excellent.
-Undercarriage shows no damage from ill placed floor jacks, loors are original and the car has been undercoated for preservation.
-Trim is straight without dents or creases and has a uniform shine and appears as original. Chrome is excellent without pitting and shows well. Front grill including center kidney grill are near perfect and the lights and lenses are all clear and bright. Hood grills and side grills should match and I will provide a replacement of your choice. Wiper arms, ntenna and side mirror are excellent.
-Interior seating surfaces are excellent showing minimal wear to the driver's side seat bolster. The seats are not sagging and are free from stains and fading. Door panels are excellent without the dreaded seat belt damage and all trim bits are present and in very good condition. Headliner is excellent, unroof operates freely. Dash is free from cracks or warping and wood is excellent without chips, plitting or warping.
-Engine bay is clean, hock towers are still covered in original painted covering with the mesh weave identifiable and intact. There is no evidence of current rust or prior rust repair. The screws that retain the hood grills are showing some age from the underside and should be replaced.
-Instrumentation and electronics are all operating as they should. There is no AC.
-Engine is strong with 180-185 compression, o smoke and smooth acceleration through all RPM ranges. Factory four speed transmission is also smooth without grinding or noticeable clutch wear.
-Wheels are original and look like they may have been restored at some point. Tires are matching but older and should be replaced.
-Trunk compartment is amazing, ikely repaint in the spare tire well, lephant skin, heel well plastic and trim is all excellent and the full tool set is as new.
In summary, his is one of 3,000 CSI's built in 1972. None were delivered to US showrooms and few were imported privately. This car shows as original, ot restored or pieced together. It has a matching true CSI Factory engine and four speed. It has crank front windows and sunroof which operate with ease unlike the sticky under powered US versions. There is a binder of maintenance history and manuals that will accompany the car. Inspections and questions are welcomed and encouraged prior to auction close. This is a ten day auction. Please have all finances, pprovals, uestions and inspections completes prior to purchase and auction completion. Contact Scott @ 203-219-0113 EST.
