MotoeXotica is pleased to announce another cult classic from the 1970s, a stunning numbers matching 1976 BMW 2002! Also known as an E10, this car was the epitome of performance with its then-forward thinking design. The beautiful example was purchased from Crevier Motors, Santa Ana, California, on December 8, 1975, with only 13 miles on it! It resided with the same loving family for the next 35 years!

Finished in the popular and brilliant, factory correct Fjord Blue Metallic, the professional paint job shows extremely well and was performed on all original sheet metal with the windows out. Front and rear aluminum bumpers have a fit and finish that show excellently. All aluminum trim pieces are present and have a brilliant finish. The headlights and taillights are in very good condition with no hazing or cracks. The paint work is exceptional while this sunroof delete body shell appears straight and dry with the typical trouble spots on the floors, rockers and shock towers are in excellent condition, with factory undercoating visible with the trunk open. Inside the trunk is the original tire jack and original full-size Michelin XAS 165-HR13 tire, complete with chalk marks from the factory inspector.

Inside, the Marine Blue leatherette front and rear seats both look excellent and present themselves as close to showroom new as you will ever find. The original and correct blue door panels and carpet complement the car’s exterior and look fantastic, as does the original headliner. All factory VDO gauges are original and function as designed. The original dash is in very good condition with only a small crack. This example is equipped with the rare radio delete center console. The original steering wheel is in very good condition with no cracks and a functioning horn.

This car comes equipped with a numbers matching, 2371702, 2.0L single overhead cam M10 four-cylinder engine with an iron block and fed by a Weber two- barrel 32/36 carburetor. Included with purchase is the original carburetor and air cleaner. Power is transferred to the rear wheels by a Getrag four-speed manual transmission. Engine still has a smog pump and is California Air Resources Board-compliant. Driver assist features include, rack-and- pinion steering, front disc and rear drum brakes with independent suspension, factory original 13-inch steel wheels and chrome beauty rings that have an excellent finish with radial performance tires. This car is not missing anything.

In the late 1960s, Helmut Werner Bönsch, BMW’s director of product planning, and Alex von Falkenhausen, designer of the M10 engine, each had a two-liter engine installed in 1600-2s for their respective personal uses. When they realized they both made the same modification to their own cars, they prepared a joint proposal to BMW’s board to manufacture a two-liter version of the 1600-2. At the same time, American importer Max Hoffman asked BMW for a sporting version of the 02 series to sell in the United States.
