Description for BMW 6-Series 1981
For sale is my 1981 Euro spec BMW E24 635CSi. This is a German market vehicle that was imported in the mid 80's. The car is Henna Red on Black leather Recaro interior, a very rare color combination. If you know 70's and 80's BMWs, you know this car is absolutely one of a kind. Some stand-out specifications on this car:
- M90 6 cylinder engine with Schrick 290 Cam- Stahl long tube headers with factory catless exhaust- Getrag G262 Close Ratio Dogleg 5-speed transmission. Very rare factory, euro-only option for this car. Same trans as the european-only E30 M3 Evolution. Shifts great.- Factory LSD- Factory Recaro Bucket Seats- 16" Factory BBS RA wheels, wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tires with 90% tread life.- *Service records since 1991*
Exterior is 9.5/10. It is rust-free and has never spent time in a cold climate. It lived between Florida and South Carolina until three months ago. Paint is nearly perfect- the car was resprayed 10 years ago (original color) and was done incredibly well.
Interior is 7/10. The front seat is a bit beat up and there are, just like almost every 80's BMW, a few cracks in the dashboard. Radio is original but will not turn on. AC system is original R12 and could use a recharge (or retrofit to R134). The sunroof works, but it will only tilt and not slide back. Other than that, rear and front passenger seats are in great shape and headliner is good. The car also retains an original trunk toolkit, which is mostly full and original.
Also of note: the odometer stopped working about 200 miles into my ownership. This is an issue that plagues just about every BMW of this era. The mileage noted in this listing is a very accurate estimate of how many miles are currently on the vehicle. I have recent service records verifying this.
Last month, I replaced:
- Starter- Clutch Slave- Tires (non-metric)- Passenger Window Motor
Car is essentially turn-key. Can be used as a fun (and fast) driver, or as occasional local show-winner. I purchased the car as an opportunity to have a fun classic to take to local shows, but I've had some lifestyle changes and now require a new daily driver with lots of cargo space. This is one that I'm definitely going to regret letting go.
