Description for BMW : 3.0cs 3.0 cs E9 coupe 1973
Offered for sale a 1973 BMW 3.0cs E9 coupe in the rare factory AC/sunroof configuration. This is a very rare car and one of the most beautiful cars you are likely to ever see. In 1973 BMW only made approximately 750 E9 coupes and very few had factory AC and a sunroof. The car retains its original matching number 3 liter 6 cylinder engine which runs strongly and has an amazing exhaust note, like a Ferrari or early Aston Martin. It has power steering and power windows. It has been upgraded to a 5 speed manual transmission. I installed a professionally restored period correct Becker Europa 2 radio which is beautiful and sounds great. The car runs and drives but needs more work to make it just right. It is very fun to drive and comfortable. At some point (when new?) the chassis was undercoated which really has done a good job of preventing corrosion on the bottom of the car. The floorboards are solid, the drivers side has a factory plug which needs to be resealed. This is rather are for these cars as they are very prone to rusting. There is very little rust on the chassis. There are some small rust bubbles on the body, they are not terrible but will need to be addressed. The car at some point was hit in the right rear. The damage was repaired using the original metal, but could have been done better although it is not a terrible job. Unfortunately it must have been during a time when these cars were not appreciated as they are now and they issued a salvage title. The damage really didn't warrant issuing this title.ENGINE-Original matching number engine runs stron and produces good power but could use more work.TRANSMISSION-Upgraded 5 speed transmission shifts well.CHASSIS-Very clean chassis which is rare fro these cars.BODY-Repaired right rear panel. Some small rust bubbles under paint. Front rocker panels seem good, rear panels need to be replaced. Sunroof works but needs final adjustment and is slightly bent.PAINT-Looks good but is a little marginal. It is shiny but has small areas where it is pulling up. There are scratches on sunroof panel.ELECTRICS-Needs help. High beams work, not low beam. Blinkers work. Corner lights and tail lights work. Brake lights work. Heater motor inop. Windows work except right rear which is trying to roll down but probably needs cleaning. All windows are slow but I understand they were slow when new. I cleaned and re lubed the front windows and they are much better.INTERIOR-Factory original seats are very nice and comfortable. Wood trim needs work. Dash has numerous cracks. Headliner is okay but needs to be re glued behind sunroof and sunroof headliner needs to be re attached after sunroof adjustment. Nardi steering wheel. Period correct high end Becker radio works well.INSTRUMENTATION-Speedometer inoperative. Tach. seems to read low. All other gauges functional.AC-Not functioning. There is a broken hose but there may be other issues. The compressor seems to kick on.
I have only had this car for a year and have done some work on it but there is more to be done. I am selling it because I just don't have the time to devote to getting the car just right. I would view this car as a bit of a project but one you can drive right now and enjoy while you do the work. This is a very rare car and well worth any time or money spent on its restoration. The car comes with a good (looks like the original)reproduction factory repair manual which is very useful. Also comes with about $500 worth of parts including a hard to source complete sunroof seal set. The car comes with the California title as I received it. I urge anyone who is interested in the car to come look at it or have someone locally look at it for you. I am very willing to answer any questions you may have. Please review the photos and contact me with questions.
This is a stunning, fun to drive car that with some work would be an absolute pleasure to own.
Good luck with the bidding!
