Description for Buick Other 1940

For sale here we have a beautiful example of pre-WWII American automotive luxury. This Buick Phaeton Convertible is the top of the line for the 1940 model year. Only 230 were made in this trim package. The convertible top. engine-turned dash. push-button radio. dual covered spare tires and amber fog lights all add to the charm and class of this vehicle. Humphrey Bogart owned one of these models. and it was featured in the movie "Casablanca. " I included a picture of an article about this in the photos. This particular model has been in my family for nearly half a century. It was restored in the early 1970's by Clarence "Click" Green. a lifelong Buick mechanic and enthusiast. from Westlake. Ohio. It was sold to another family member about 8 years ago. Neither of these gentlemen drive anymore so the decision has been made to sell the car. I have driven this car myself and can personally attest to the condition. It is a very comfortable and powerful car even by modern standards. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It starts easily. runs smoothly. and the transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears. Mechanically everything appears sound. Unfortunately I do not know how many miles are on it since the rebuild. nor do I know if the odometer has been flipped. The pictures tell the story on this. If you have any questions. please ask before bidding and I will do my best to answer them in a timely fashion. This car is being sold for absolute auction price: A one hundred dollar opening bid and no reserve. Bid early. bid often. and to win it. bid last. A non-deposit $200 deposit is due via PayPal within 24 hours of auction end. The remainder will be paid via cash or cashier's check upon pickup. The vehicle is located in North central Ohio and can be driven away. or trailered. Again. please ask questions before bidding. I am not a pro eBay salesman but I pride myself on being fair and honest. having sold quite a few items here with several big ticket vehicles among them. I would rather not make a sale than have an unhappy bidder. My rating speaks for itself. That being said. good luck and happy bidding! On Feb-02-15 at 17:30:51 PST. seller added the following information: I have learned from several people here that this car is not what I advertised it as being. I am extremely sorry. Anyone who would like to retract a bid is more than welcome to do so. I did not mean to mislead or defraud anyone. I am not an expert on Buicks; I posted the information I was given. Here is what I have learned since then:This car is NOT an 81C. I don't know (and have heard several differing descriptions) what constitutes a "Century. "Limited. or "Phaeton. " ( I would change the description but eBay won't let me. ) Here are the facts. It is a 61C. I have added a picture of the data plate on the firewall which shows this. The wheelbase measured out at 126 inches. An electric fuel pump has been added to make the car start more easily. It started this morning (Feb 2 2015) in the cold with no trouble. The brake and taillights did NOT work when it was started. The hood latch handles have the word "Century" on them. visible in one of the photos. This car has two carburetors and has had them for as long as I have been aware of it. but I don't know if it came from the factory like that. There are some stains and discoloration of the convertible top. which I have also tried to show in the pictures. Again. I apologize sincerely for my error. and offer my thanks to all who have educated me. Anyone who would like to retract a bid is more than welcome to do so with no fear of reprisal or ill will on my part. My mistake was made honestly. but it is completely my fault.
