Description for Buick Skylark 1961
1961 Buick SkylarkAluminum 215 cu. V8!
Only 69k Original Miles!
When we look back to the 60's there is one car that was introduced to the American public in an all out blitz formation and that car was the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang. This was a car that was shoved down our throats and the media had told us what we were looking for. The world's fair displayed it as it was the next best thing since sliced bread. But lets back up about 3 years and let's assume that Lee Iacocca worked for Buick instead, which was already a stable competitor in Detroit, and let's say Iacocca did a full out marketing blitz on the Buick Skylark but maybe named it something else, something a little cooler and meaner. The 1961 Skylark's body and dimensions are within inches of the Mustang, and the 215 V8 all aluminum block was the most advanced motor ever produced up until that time, not only in America but around the world and the styling of the Buick was far more flamboyant and crisp and more in your face then the Mustang ever was....What if??? Although a matter of opinion, I think that if the Skylark was introduced in the matter the Mustang was, it would have changed the whole outlook of Buick and certainly would have put them directly in battle during the pony car wars. Please read on to learn about the condition of this Buick and scroll down through all the pictures and view the video at the very end. Thank you for visiting.
Exterior:
The exterior, as you can see is in excellent condition. The car was repainted once about 10 years ago and still shows great. I would consider it a driver quality paint job that presents very well. The chrome is 100% original as is the stainless. Some pitting and hazing but for being original it still shows very well. The glass is original and it's all clear and chip free. The body is solid with no signs of bodywork and all metal appears to be original and in excellent solid shape. There is 1 reverse light lense missing. Underneath is original and solid along with the frame as well. Please view all the pictures and let me know of any questions you may have.
Interior:
The car's interior was freshoned up at some point in its life as well. It's tough to tell if the carpet is original or not, but I believe the seats have been redone. Regardless if it was done it was it was redone awhile ago. The dome light lenses are missing. We purchased the car from the second owner who purchased it about 10 years ago and they explained they didn't touch the interior, they only repainted the car. The dash, door panels and headliner are all original and in excellent original condition but could use a little detail. All options work except the fuel gauge. Please let us know of any questions you may have after viewing the photos and video.
Drive-Train:
This generation Skylark introduced the all new, all aluminum block, 215 cubic inch V8 with a 4bbl exhaust nicknamed the Rover. For the Skylark, the engine beefed up to 195 horsepower with the use of high compression and a 4 bbl carburetor. From what we are told, other than minor maintenance the engine is all original. All original stampings are clear and present on the block. The original transmission was just rebuilt and all the brakes have been gone through. The car runs excellent and is quite powerful for a little V8. I wouldn't hesitate driving this car anywhere. Please let us know of any questions you may have.
In Summation:
If you're looking to enter into the classic car market and don't want to spend a ton of money this may be the perfect fit. It's a car you can drive and gradually make perfect with just light tinkering and detailing on the weekends. This is a car that is not seen often at shows so you will sure stand out. Own something different for a change. Good luck with bidding and I'm here to help with any questions you may have.
