Description for Buick Super 1948
1948 Buick Four Door Super. 27,350 original miles The original owner ordered the car July 12, 1948 and took delivery October 19, 1948 The car remained in his name until his death in 2010. This and two other cars were left to the sister who transferred the titles to her name as required by Michigan law but never registered or driven. I purchased the cars from the sisters estate upon her death in 2015.
The Buick has Original paint with 71 years and 27,373 miles of expected wear. There appears to be some paint touchup adjacent to the battery on the top of the right fender or it is just thin paint in this area. The interior still adorns the dealer installed Paratwill seat covers that were a $55.00 option according to the sales order. The drivers seat bottom was removed to reveal a pristine original seat upholstery. Turn signals, wipers, clock and radio all work. There are two original keys with key tag numbers stamped on them indicating original keys. There is a NOS front floor mat in the trunk that will come with the car.
The brake wheel cylinders and master cylinder were rebuilt by White Post Restorations in VA in June 2001 and still work great. He put a heavy duty front sway bar that same time period.
I have a set of NOS Paratwill seat covers for the car if the new owner wishes to replace the drivers seat bottom to match the rest of the car.
This car has one of the most incredible provenances you will ever find.
The first photo in this listing is the original owner just days after delivery. The second is the car today. The authentic Michigan 1948 plate is the same plate issued by the State Of Michigan when he took delivery. I have many of the plates from 1948 to 1961 and the paper registration to go along with each plate.
The file includes the usual documents like manuals, warranty info, service guides etc.
The purchase paperwork, salesman's business card, loan documents, loan coupon book, canceled checks for loan payments, paper hang tags for accessories, antifreeze caution, and much more.
The car had 5 new Firestone tires (4+ Spare) purchased in 1962 The spare in the trunk now is one of these tires. The steel wheels still have the original 3 painted pinstripes outlining the center cap. The car now has Coker American Classic Radials 7.60R X 15
The car was driven sparingly in the summers until approximately 1965. In the late 80's (1988) the first receipts showing fuel pump, water pump, Carburetor, fuel tank reconditioning and other service items help document the recommissioning of his fine car. There was no registration or insurance documents until the late 90's and in an article published in a local paper the original owner was interviewed and said the car was back on the road 17 years ago. This article was published in 2007.
The car is amazingly quiet a blast to drive and a piece of one man's lifelong documented attachment to a magnificent car.
