Description for Buick Roadmaster 1953
1953 Buick Roadmaster
â€Pardon the dust!" For discerning viewers, you'll note the coat of pollen on this amazing 1953 Buick Roadmaster Riviera. When I arrived to take the pictures, our seller, Arthur, was very apologetic for not having given her a bath before I arrived. However, for a guy working toward his 90th birthday, it was easy to be forgiving. This is a low production Buick and was appointed with numerous high quality styling details. The trim tag tells us that Paint code 68 is "Terrace Green" and it has the "Ridge Green" Roof. The interior trim is cloth and is code 71 (please note the minimal wear through on the back of the drivers seat). Overall, you'll be proud to drive it anywhere, take it to shows and simply enjoy it when you walk into your garage. With 87,248 miles, Arthur tells us that it doesn't need anything. "Just turn the key and drive it." He's very proud of it, although he's ready to sell. Take a close look at how original this one is. Essentially, it's unrestored!
The fifth generation of the Buick Roadmaster was introduced in 1949. They were available in four-door sedan, two-door sedanette, two-door hardtop coupe, four-door station wagon and convertible body styles. The fifth generation was the first of the "four-hole" Buicks of that era, referring to the "ventiports" on the front fenders. Originally, they were functional, providing ventilation for the engine compartment. Later, they were only cosmetic. Among the optional equipment available were a toolkit, outside mirrors, hubcaps, spotlight, tissue dispenser, parking brake warning light, sunvisor, vanity mirror and polishing kit. Fifth generation Roadmasters were smaller than previous generation cars, but had a more modern appearance, notably the curved windshield.
Nineteen fifty-one models got a new grille and the straight-8 engine displacement increasd to 320 cid. In 1952, engine power output was increased to 170 hp. Nineteen fifty-three models got the most significant changes of the fifth generation with the introduction of Buick's new 322 cid V-8 engine. With the more compact V-8 replacing the straight-8, the front end of the car was shortened.*
