Description for Buick Centurion 1972
This is a 1972 Buick Centurion convertible owned by an elderly relative of mine. It is NOT my car. The vehcle has been under restoration for 8 years. A total in excess of 25 thousand dollars has been spent on parts, material, and labor. Because of advanced age and declining health, the owner has decided to sell the car rather than continue at this slow pace. he purchased the car in 1976 while living in his native Chicago and when he relocated to Arizona in1989, he brought the car with him. the car was originally dark green metallic with a tan top and interior. in 1980, the car was repainted in the original color and a small amount of rust repair was done to the lower Quarter panels. when the car arrived in Arizona in 1989, a new top was installed. the car was used as a pleasure vehicle over the next 20 years. In 2011, a complete restoration began. four new Hankook tires were installed to make it driveable. A Phoenix area body shop removed all trim from the car, sanded the car to bare metal, and painted the car in a 2 stage Black Cherry color originally used on 2009-2013 Honda's. the bodywork in the quarters was still solid, so that was not changed. the convertible top was replaced again, this time with a high quality material with a glass rear window. a custom interior was done in a high grade material including seats, dashboard, and door panels. the interior still needs trim work, such as cutting the holes for the defrost vents and power seat switches. the cost of the top and interior was $2700.00 The original 455 engine was completely rebuilt at a cost of $4000.00 the transmission and carburetor have been rebuilt. all air conditioner components have been replaced including the evaporator, compressor, and hoses. All brake parts have been replaced including drums, rotors, wheel cylinders, calipers, master cylinder, hoses, and all steel tubing. all suspension and steering components have been replaced including springs, shocks, ball joints, tie rods, control arm bushings and much more. the paint has some cracking at the top of the left rear quarter and a few bubbles. the car has the Riviera style wheels. The engine does not idle properly. my experience as a mechanic tells me there is a vacuum leak, possibly intake gasket. there are exhaust leaks, possibly at the manifolds. we have the grille and front bumper, but the bumper's impact strip is missing. The radiator was rodded and sealed, belts, hoses, and battery have been replaced. some chrome pieces have been replated. all are nice driver quality or better. the convertible top has new lift cables dozens of other things have been repaired or replaced. it is unclear what small parts may be missing from the car, but we will include everything the restorer has. IMPORTANT! SINCE THE CAR HAS NO WINDSHIELD AND SOME OF THE PARTS FROM THE TOP LATCHES MAY BE MISSING, IT NEEDS TO BE MOVED IN AN ENCLOSED TRAILER!! you will also need to move boxes of parts. if this doesn't work for you, please don't bid. the car is located in Glendale,Arizona - a suburb of Phoenix. AS IS - SALE IS FINAL - CASH OR CASHIER'S CHECK ONLY. IF CASHIERS CHECK IS USED, NEITHER THE CAR NOR TITLE WILL BE RELEASED UNTIL FUNDS CLEAR.
