Description for Buick Skylark 1962
This is a very cool old drag car that has been brought back to life and made street legal.Body: Started with a rust free car from Oklahoma. All metal except fiberglass hood. I do have the chrome piece that goes under the front lip of the hood, but it will take some fabrication to make it work with the fiberglass hood. Paint, chrome, trim, is all driver quality with exception to front bumper. I do however have a very nice front bumper with good chrome that comes with the car if you want to loose the moon tank. It has been tubbed in the rear and has a custom made "dog house" cover that comes off very easily to expose the rear of the engine and front of the transmission. Makes working on it, or an engine change, very easy. All lights work. Glass is all good. Wipers, cigarette lighter, and horn work. Has external battery disconnect out back that actually kills the engine when turned off. ( requirement for track racing ) All graphics are stick on vinyl and be easily removed. I also have extra 3" lettering to match what is on the car for a wording change. I do have the stock hood hinges should you decide to run a stock metal hood, but I do not have a stock hood. I also have various other spare parts.
Chasis: Early 80's Camaro sub frame up front. 2" x 4" custom made tube frame from there out to the back of the car. 9" Ford rear end with 3:73 Posi gear set up. Custom made adjustable 4 link set up. Coil springs and air shocks to adjust the rear height. It currently has 2 of those metal twist in spring spacers up front to raise the front end a little higher than stock. They can easily be removed to make the car sit level. It has power steering and 4 wheel power disc brakes. 15" x 10" vintage slots on the back with brand new Hoosier DOT rated drag radial slicks. 275/60-15. Fronts are vintage 15" x 4" slots with brand new 165/80-15 radials. I do not know who did all of the custom metal fabrication, but whoever it was, he did and excellent job.
Driveline: Originally this car ran a blown big block Chevy. The current engine is a rebuilt factory 1967 -- 396 -- 375 HP big block Chevy. Engine block casting # 3902406 and rectangular port heads casting # 3919840. It has a high performance solid lifter cam and roller rockers. Brand new Edlebrock Performer RPM air gap intake. Rebuilt 750 CFM Holley carb. Vintage Mickey Thompson valve covers. carter electric fuel pump. 15 Gallon aluminum fuel cell. Full length long tube under the chases headers into full exhaust. Sounds great. Rebuilt 400 turbo transmission with performance flywheel and about a 2500 stahl torque converter.
Interior: The seats are very nice. The rest of the interior is driver quality. New carpeting would make a huge difference in the overall look. It does have a tilt steering column and all of the gauges / dash lights work. The cable running across the floor is for the neutral safety switch. ( race track requirement ) I was going to hide it under new carpeting if I got that far.
All in all, this is a very cool old drag car that can now be safely and reliably driven on the street, ( runs great on premium pump gas ) and can be taken to the track for some real fun. It goes straight and stops straight. Burns the tires. Turns heads, and you will not see another one like it at any cruise you go to.
Put a factory steel hood on it and have a REAL street sleeper. It could also make a great drift car.
