Description for Cadillac Eldorado 1955

1955 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible
Harley Earl's exceptional design influenced by styling cues from GM Motorama Dream Cars

1955 Cadillac Eldorado

After World War II, eneral Motors had Harley Earl at the helm of design and as the head designer Earl was able to take the Cadillac Division and make it the number one leading luxury car produced in the United States. Also after World War II, arley Earl was the originator for the idea of the Dream Cars/Concept Cars and in 1955 he took many features of the prior concept cars from the GM Motorama and incorporated them into the design of the 1955 Cadillac Eldorado convertible. The greatest changes of course from the production Cadillac convertible was in the rear end design which had been a styling cue that was taken from the fighter jets that become the dominant warplanes after World War II. Earl directed the motors to be beefed up with a hot-rodded dual four-barrel carburetors. The gorgeous interior was accented with a fabulous fiberglass parade boot to cover the convertible top when the convertible top is in the down position to add to the sleek design.

Harley Earl's idea of the Eldorado was to have a large luxury automobile with many sports car influenced features so that while this car was targeted for very successful people it also appealed to younger audiences because of the futuristic design.

The current owner had followed this car for twenty years before he finally had the opportunity to buy it. This private seller has enjoyed this car for shows and touring since his purchase. The odometer on this car reads 48,508 miles and the owner believes this to be original miles although there is no paper trail documentation for the mileage.

The car is equipped with power brakes, ower steering, ower windows and power seats and deluxe radio (radio currently not working).

The owner tells us that he purchased the car with a 13-14 year old restoration and decided to make the following repairs to insure the car was road worthy.

All new wheel cylinders (stainless sleeved)

Brake power booster rebuilt and stainless sleeved

Master cylinder sleeved

All new stainless brake lines

All new stainless fuel lines

New gas tank

New exhaust system

New battery.

The transmission is completely rebuilt.

The owner states that this car starts, uns and stops as a 1955 car should.

The car is equipped with the original 331 c.i. V8 with the dual quad carburetors and Hydromatic transmission that was recently rebuilt.

The car was painted in the original factory color of Cobalt Blue - note Paint No 26 on Data Plate Code with the Red and White correct original factory design interior (interior is vinyl) including correct style carpet.

To sum up the current condition of the car it is a beautiful tour car but it is showing some age in the restoration and is not a 100-point show car. Currently the Autronic Eye and the original radio are not working. There are a few slight mars in the clear coat that are relatively minor but the seller has provided photos that we are happy to pass along to serious bidders.

The private seller recently purchased five new wide white wall tires.

The 1955 Cadillac Eldorado is one of the largest Cadillac Eldorados ever made and perhaps one of the largest production cars made in the 1950s. It can cruise at much higher then highway speeds all day long and leave the driver still refreshed at the end of a long day of touring. It is difficult to find a 1955 Cadillac Eldorado in this condition and is a great opportunity for somebody looking for an extremely rare and luxurious collector car that is fully capable of touring the United States.

We know that many buyers for this type of collector car are in other countries such as Australia, urope and Canada and ask that buyers outside of the United States call to notify us before bidding at 00-1-847-774-4857 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. CST. We will cooperate with export agents to help expedite cars going out of the company but again ask that you call first if you are located outside of the United States.

This is a car you can bid to win!
