Description for Cadillac Other 1950
There were several versions of Cadillac made in the 1950 but the "60 special" was the most luxurious of them all and the most expensive hard top Sedan Cadillac made at the time. The 60 special is much harder to find than for example the 61 or the 62 series. It is also a bit wider I belive and a bit roomier inside that the other two models. This nicely preserved example has been in the last seller's family since the 50's before I bought it a few weeks ago. The mileage is believed original as the car has only been driven occasionally on nice days relatively short distances around its small town home. It sports some neat things one doesn't always see under the hood like the radiator screen, asher bottle, nd auxiliary lubrication unit. Its a very solid car with minimal rust in the rockers owing to its indoor storage. The chrome and brightwork is very nice, s is the paint which outside of the pictured dings, s pretty remarkable. The interior is pretty nice with an excellent headliner, reat dash, nd some period seat covers than could just well have been put in place to protect a good interior rather than hide a bad one. It has some neat accessories like a pivoting tray and tissue dispenser. The car runs very well, t starts right up and purrs smoothly. The trunk has all its original lining and possibly the original spare. The hydraulic window system needs some hoses replaced, nd I would recommend new belts and hoses prior to a long drive, ut for around town this car is good to go.
Drives beautifully and turns on like a brand new car. New battery was installed when I got it. Below is all the descriptions and information about the car. Thank you
I bought this car a few weeks ago and only drove it once due to busy schedule and decided to sell it. This is a very beautiful car and heads will turn when you drive it down the street. Everything is original in this car. The Radio works which was amazing to me. The windshield wiper turns on which I could not belive. The wipers are tiny and extremely cute. It has a napkin holder under the dash on the passenger side which I have never seen in any Cadillac before and a very cute tray to put stuff on that swivels. Eventhough it is a 65 year old car, he chrome is in good shape and has some scratches on it as well as few dents here and there. The seats are in good condition as you can see in the pictures and have had an original cover most likely from the factory built in. The back seat's cover is torn a bit as you can see in the picture but the underlayer (original cloth) is still ok for now. I got my mechanic to change the main belt and a few hoses. I also have done oil change as well as the filter. I have a few filters in the trunk for you as well as break-pads and few other parts like lights, oses, ngine parts, tc...
When you buy it, suggest you take it to a car-wash and do a steam clean of the engine first and change some of the hoses as well as gaskets to have peace of mind when you drive long distance. It smells a bit like gasoline probably because of the carburetor needing adjustment or some hoses need to be changed. The driver door most likely needs adjustment since it is a bit loose when you close it. The widows in the back work slowly and the front passenger side sometimes closes half way and the driver side doesn't go up. The seller told me that since these cars work with oil pressure system and the oil in the windows system has leaked into the door panels for years you should change all the hoses inside the panels and they should all work because the motors do work and make noise. I looked under the car and there is minimal rust which is amazing for a 65 year old car. All in all, his is a very hard to find car because it is the 60 special model and is worth spending a few hundred dollars to change a few hoses. This will make a great weekend drive with minimal investment and you can always sell it after years of enjoyment and actually make money on it.
Books, ools, nd Records, ccompany the car.Cadillac was formed from the remnants of the Henry Ford Co when Henry Ford departed along with several of his key partners and the company was dissolved. With the intent of liquidating the firm's assets, Ford's financial backers, called in engineer HEnry Leland to appraise the plant and equipment prior to selling them. Instead, eland persuaded them to continue the automobile business using Leland's proven 1-cylinder engine. Henry Ford's departure required a new name, nd the company reformed as the Cadillac Automobile Company.
The Cadillac automobile was named after the 17th century French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, ieur de Cadillac, ounder of Detroit in 1701.
Cadillac helped to define advanced engineering, uxury and style early in Automotive History and would come to be known as one of the world's finest made vehicles. Precision manufacturing of truly interchangeable parts was an award-winning industry first in 1908. Cadillac was the first manufacturer to release cars with a fully enclosed cab as factory equipment in 1910. Standard electric engine starting and lighting was another award winner for 1912. Cadillac introduced the first production V8 engine for the 1914 model year. Cadillac was the first manufacturer to utilize the skills of a designer to produce a car's body instead of an engineer (1927). This gave the public a car that looked as good as it performed. Cadillac's engineers were first to design a manual transmission with synchronizers for increased drivability (1929) and were instrumental in the early development of the automatic transmission, eginning in 1932. Cadillac offered a production V16 engine from 1930 through 1940 and introduced the production independent wishbone front suspension in 1934. The marque introduced tailfins for 1948. From the late 1960s onward, adillac offered a fiber-optic indication system which alerted the driver of a failed light bulb.
The Sixty Special is one of Cadillac's most notable and lasting designs- penned by Bill Mitchell in the late 30's- this groundbreaking car set the stage for Sedan design that continues to this day. The Blind Rear Quarter panels and chrome window surrounds appear more like a convertible sedan, nd the low slung body and deluxe interior accoutrements garnered the model the nickname "Little Rolls Royce".
