Description for Cadillac Series 61 Coupe 1950
Fabulous 3 Owner 36,000 mile 1950 Cadillac Series 61 Coupe200 Miles Since Comprehensive 25 Year Restoration
From the Oregon countryside arrives this 1950 Cadillac Two-Door Coupe, with a documented history that could have come out of a storybook. Discovered in 1991 by its current owner in a shed overgrown with vines, this highly original hardtop was sold new in Oregon, has changed hands only twice, and still wears its original 1950 Oregon license plates.
When the shed doors creaked open and daylight hit this Cadillac, its odometer had recorded a mere 20,000 miles. The original owner had locked the car away and after her passing it was given to her grandson. It stayed in the shed, but was rescued when he transferred it the current owner. Now with only 36,000 documented miles, this remarkable Cadillac is being offered to the collector market. It has undergone a long term restoration of the highest quality and covered only a few hundred miles since completion ten years ago. The current owner's priorities now lie elsewhere and her objective is to find an enthusiast who appreciates the car and the workmanship that as gone into its rebirth.
No bolt was left unturned in this Cadillac's restoration. When found, rust was primarily limited to the floorboards and they have been expertly replaced with new steel. Disassembled down to the frame, everything was sandblasted, refinished, rechromed, resealed, renewed or rebuilt and painstakingly reassembled. From the ground up, the list of photo-documented work includes a new suspension, new vintage tires, rebuilt drivetrain, hydraulics and brakes, rebuilt engine and ancillaries, rebuilt hydramatic transmission and rebuilt rear end. New wiring, new chrome, new glass where required, new rubber seals. A quality new interior. All receipts and in-progress photos are supplied with the sale and the owner is available to substantiate the work performed. The car is sold with a clear Oregon title (reconstructed, as required on vehicles of this age) and a signed statement from the previous owner confirming its two-owner family history. Hardly driven in the last few years, the car was given a new battery and fresh fuel and is running smoothly. Needs are minimal -- the gas gauge requires a new sending unit, the Cadillac emblem on the trunk is missing and the hubcaps could use a detail.
The data plate indicates the car came from the factory in French Gray on Gray Whale Cord and Plain cloth. The interior was beautifully redone in the original grays but the owner elected the exterior to be refinished in a later GM color -- a rich blue-green that contributes to this grand coupe's large and unmistakable presence. Not a lot of options on the Series 61. It came from the factory with a radio and a clock and that's how it is presented -- solid and honest -- as unadorned and uncomplicated as Cadillac's luxury offerings got at mid-point in the 20th century.
The 1950 Cadillac -- lower, sleeker, longer. The famous tailfins made their appearance around this time and would steadily grow enormous. Offered at $35,000. Shipping nationally and internationally.
