Description for Cadillac Fleetwood 1955
1955 Cadillac Fleetwood Model 75 Imperial Limousine
Vehicle History
In 1955 only 841 Model 75 Imperial Limousines were built by Cadillac.
These rare luxury cars were ordered and owned by President Dwight D Eisenhower, Elvis Presley and King Farouk of Egypt.
Two Fleetwood Limousines were pulled off the line and sent to Derham of Pennsylvania to be customized. This is one of those cars.
Derham customized its two 1955 limousines with a full English leather top. This covered a modified body with the windows behind the side doors and the rear window removed in order to “blind quarter” the car, providing passenger privacy.A smaller rear window was then addedto balance privacy with visibility for the chauffeur.
The passenger compartment was upholstered in Woolton Wool, including both the seats and the carpeting. This includes the two folding jump seats (see the photos provided) making this a true 7-passenger limousine. The chauffeur’s seat was upholstered in Corinthian leather.
Derham further customized their limousines for passenger comfort by moving the air conditioning duct work to the roof, including the ducts and vents in the chauffeur compartment.Six blower motors were added to ensure uniform cooling throughout the car. Similarly, two rear heaters were added to the passenger compartment to provide a toasty ride during colder winter months.
For moments when climate control wasn’t wanted—or privacy was—Derham added all power windows, including the divider window between the passenger and the chauffeur.
Restoration
The paint and body work is concourse level excellence. This is a rust-free car.
Both the transmission and the engine have been overhauled, and fitted with a new D6A/C compressor, new hoses, and converted to 134A Freon.
Exhaust system has been completely rebuilt, with stainless header pipes and mufflers.
All brakes have been re-built including new wheel cylinders and new set of tires have been added to the car.
The battery is also new and the electrical has been converted to an alternator from the original generator.
The windshield wipers wereconverted to electric from the original vacuum-driven operation for dependability.
All stainless steel has been polished, all chrome has been re-plated. The chrome alone on this car cost $25,000.
All of the window motors have been replaced and all window work flawlessly.
Even the glove box and the step plates have been replaced with new old stock, making every last detail perfect.
In short, there is nothing to do to this car, except drive it and enjoy it!There is no better example of this car existing. It would be the centerpiece of any serious Cadillac collection.
