This is an original 68. 00 mile car. mostly original paint. original leather. original top. original carpet. that looks very sharp and drives even better. I have kept the car indoors for about 5 years. The prior owner garaged it and only used it winters. Before that I think it came from New EnglandBest to check wikopedia for full history of this model produced from 1979 to 1985. with different engines. 1984 was the first year that the Eldorado Convertivble was offered in the Cadillac catalogue and fully warrantied through Cadillac. Earlier years may have been sold by a Cadillac dealer as aftermarket conversions. In 1984 two companies made the conversion for Cadillac. Hess &Eisenhardt and American Sunroof Corporation (ASC). Hess and Eisenhardt converted Eldorados with pleated seats. ASC converted Eldorado Biaritz's. with pillow top seats with buttons. They were both sold as Cadillac Eldorado convertibles in Cadillac showrooms in 1984 and 1985. The belt line is different on the two models and the quarter windows are different. The ASC/Biaritz also has an extra piece of fender chrome. Arguably the Hess and Eisenhardt is the rarer and better looking car with the belt line similar to the original coupe and a more conservative and durable interior. If you want the more ornate /luxurious pillow top seat version. you have the wrong car with mine. These seats where out faster so many have been replaced with something different. The biggest problem I had with this car is one time it was starving for fuel. The fuel pump was in the tank. so the tank was taken down. The fuel pump was OK but a little 2" long connecting hose was split. limiting fuel provided to the engine. The fuel pump was fine but a new hose and pump was installed and the sender tested OK. I currently have a slight air leak in one tire. I believe its the tire valve in the valve stem. If not it will be brought to a tire guy. Everything works except as noted. On a recent 100 mile trip. I forgot to test the cruise control. Radio is an aftermarket upgrade and works well. Tires and brakes are good. A photo is enclosed of a 1984 Buick convertible sign for sale (similar to one I had 30 years ago) at a Classic car lot nearby asking $17. 00. consistant with NADA for the 84 Eldorado- high retail $16. 00. average retail $9. 00. These are all great cars (Oldsmobile maybe is the rarest) and are finally being noticed by Collectors. My attraction to this car was the front seat legroom because I am 6'6' (more than a 1976 Eldorado). I have replaced the car with a 1986 Aston Martin V8 Volante and I STILL don't have working A/C and am getting tight on storage space so regretably the 84 Eldorado or my 1973 Buick Centurion has to go. My last 100 mile trip. there were no problems with the car. For a long trip it should be serviced.
