Description for Cadillac Series 61 1941
***********NO RESERVE*************
This 1941 Cadillac Touring Sedan was shipped to Duluth(MN) Motors Inc. on May 21, 1941, three days before Robert (Bob Dylan) Zimmerman arrived at nearby St. Mary’s Hospital. The car was sold to a school teacher from Eveleth,MN, who owned the car until it was purchased in 1969 by my uncle, a car collector in Fargo,ND. I purchased the car from uncle’s estate in 2014. It was delivered with optional equipment including Fog lights, Hydramatic Transmission and under seat heaters. Selling because I lost my storage.
Mechanical
The car is a great driver. It has its original flathead V8 engine with 53,000 miles on it and Hydramatic transmission (1st year Cadillac had an Automatic Transmission).
A local restoration rebuilt the carb, adjusted the transmission linkage and replaced the radiator with a unit from 1946 (no thermostat run radiator shield). They also went through the brakes and rebuilt the wheel cylinders. It starts, runs and stops great. The transmission is good and shifts smoothly through all the gears, but does leak some fluid.
Electrical
The car remains 6 volt. I just bought new battery this summer. Temp, Fuel, Clock and trip odometer do not currently work. All other gauges work as expected. The headlights, rear lights and turn indicators work well. Only 1 fog light works currently. I haven’t checked to see if it the bulb or not.
Exterior
The exterior looks very presentable. It looks great from 20 feet, but close inspection shows the spider cracks, air bubbles and chips of a 40-some year old lacquer repaint(original color).
Despite spending its whole life in the Upper Midwest the car has very little surface rust. It appears where paint has chipped off and under the lip of the trunk lid, but there is no rust through. The underside also looks good. There are no holes or patches.
The glass has some bubbles and other imperfections. The passenger vent window has a crack in it.
The chrome trim has some pitting, but the window trim and bumpers are in great shape considering the age of the items. I just bought new white wall radials this summer.
Interior
The back seat is original with a single tear on the arm rest. The front seat is covered in a seat cover that has been in place as long as I remember. It would not surprise me if this was put in place when the car was purchased, because the installation is so well done and I do not feel any tears or under the cover.
The carpet in back is in good shape, but the front mats are long gone. The door panels are in good shape with no tears.
