Description for Cadillac Series 62 1961
1961 Cadillac 62 Convertible- Great Driver!Cadillac was restyled and re-engineered for 1961. The new grille slanted back towards both the bumper and the hood lip, along the horizontal plan, and sat between dual headlamps. New forward slanting front pillars with non-wraparound windshield glass were seen. The revised backlight treatment had crisp angular lines with thin pillars on some models and heavier semi-blind quarter roof posts on others. Standard equipment power brakes, power steering, automatic transmission, dual reverse lights, windshield washer, dual speed wipers, wheel discs, plain fender skirts, outside rearview mirror, vanity mirror and oil filter. Rubberized front and rear coil springs replaced the trouble prone air suspension system. Four-barrel induction systems were now the sole power choice and dual exhaust were no longer available.
The 1961 Cadillac Convertible offered here is represented by the owner as a nice driver with focus placed on all things mechanical for driving. Engine runs very smooth with no funny noises or smoke. Transmission shifts smoothly and the brakes have been all recently serviced. Starts easily, runs and drives well, stops perfectly. The odometer shows 57,175 miles and we feel this is original milage.
Electrically, there are fewknown problems. Fuel gauge works between 3/4 and full. Owner reports that when gauge starts to bounce would be a good time to refuel. The power-seat control button works, but is reported that that nylon gears arestripped. A new motor is included with the sale. All windows work by the main driver control and individual control, with the exception of the passenger door. Radio and power antennanot currently working. All exterior lights and directionals with exterior indicators work.High beam and low beam work
Cosmetically, it has received a new top recently. Although the car has been repainted, the buyer should expect many chips, scratches, cracks, small bubbles and scuffs throughout the cars exterior as I hope the photos will show. It has certainly been enjoyed and driven. The interior is most likely all original with the exception of the carpet on the floor and the lowerdrivers door panel.
The underside of the car shows existing rust through and previous metal repair. The floors are original, however it looks like sheet metal was riveted on top and a new carpet installed. Right inner rocker has had sheet metal welded in previously and left inner rocker was never repaired, still showing rust through. All underside pictures listed here should show all areas of concern.
In summary, you can enjoy and tinker with this car as you make it your own. You can choose to use the car as-is for the next 100K miles just like the current owners do or make it perfect. If you want a perfect car, this is not the car for you. If you want a nice 1961 Cadillac Convertible you can use immediately and enjoy, please consider this car.
