Description for Cadillac DeVille 1962
****Please note: the car will sell with factory 15" wheels and hubcaps with the inserts painted to match, with new radial whitewall tires, NOT the wire wheels in the pictures. I am keeping them for a different vehicle.****
Regretfully up for sale is my custom 1962 Cadillac. I have had thecar for about 4 years, and completely went through it. It was maroon with pink interior originally. The car was rust free and drove great, but everything except the engine needed to be freshened up. I started with the body, as I have been doing autobody for over 20 years. I shaved the handles, emblems, and trunk lock (they're operated by remote). The color is actually a 2016 Chevy Sonic color, but it was pretty close to the factory pink in 1962. Modern metallics just pop way better than the old lacquer. I disassembled the dash and painted that as well as the steering wheel and column. I hand laid the patterns on the roof and used flake, ice pearl, and candy to do the patterns. There's a little lace, basketweave, infinite lines, and fades in the patterns. I usedPPG and House of Kolor paints. The bumpers have been rechromed and I polished all the trim before I reinstalled it.
As for the interior, most of it is new. I had the seats redone in original material (except for using vinyl instead of leather on the bolsters), and the carpet and headliner is new, as well. The cloth inserts and carpet on the doors was redone, too. It also has new original reproduction floormats (maroon). The car came with seatbelts as an option, and I have new ones (maroon). Only the rears are installed at the moment, but the others will go with the car.
Mechanically, the car was functional before. However, I like to drive my cars with minimal worries. The engine was good and only has 77,000 miles (that will go up a little bit, as I drive her when the weather cooperates). I did pull the engine to clean/degrease/re-gasket it. Since it was out, I painted it to match, and had the valve covers, valley and timing covers, pulleys, and air cleaner lid chromed. I replaced the cam (mild power upgrade), lifters, push rods and timing set. I added a Pertronix III electronic ignition, coil and wires. New plugs and cap. The power steering pump has new O-rings. I also added a Fitech fuel injection system with their fuel command center (with constant flow conversion). I replaced the original Hydramatic with a fresh 200r4 overdrive using a Wilcap adapter and flywheel. New starter to go with the adapter. Only turns about 2100 RPMs at 80 mph. There is a little vibration in second to third gear. It did that with the Hydramatic, too. Not sure what that is, but everything is new and functions fine. The transmission has a Bowler Transmission lock-up kit that locks the convertor after about 8-10 seconds in fourth. It disconnects when you hit the brake or it downshifts. Nice feature. True dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers and chrome tips. Sounds great. Nice rumble, even more now with the new cam. I had the driveshaft balanced with new u-joints and carrier bearing, too. 4 wheel disc brakes with new master cylinder and hoses. There is a new booster, however I haven't installed it yet. The original works just fine. New strut rod bushings in the front. New shocks all around. The car does have hydraulic suspension. It's a simple 2 pump, 2 battery, 2 switch setup (front and back). I used the factory springs and has shocks at all 4 corners. It rides well and isn't bouncy like a stereotypical lowrider. I prefer hydraulics over air. I just don't like the hissing and compressor noise. New fuel sender and filter. Dual new interstate batteries. Chrome high output alternator ( I had to remove the generator to make room for the right front hydraulic cylinder). The radiator was redone, as well as the heater core (expensive). New hoses.
There is also a bunch of miscellaneous stuff I did as I worked my way through the car. All the lights are led, inside and out. I added 4 additional courtesy lights inside. I used a Retrosound in dash Bluetooth stereo with Rockford Fosgate speakers and amps. There are 6 speakers, including 1 subwoofer. There is also a Color Bar under the dash that lights up with the stereo. All 4 headlights are on either high or low beam (with the lights on, of course). Dual mirrors (for symmetry). New weatherstripping. New windshield.
What does she need? The dash pad is ugly. The original was cracked and I couldn't find a replacement, so I just covered it with some vinyl. It wasn't terrible at first, but is starting to come apart a bit. Doesn't look terrible, but a new pad would be nice. The rubber wiring grommets in the door jambs came apart and I couldn't find replacements. The oil pan and tranny pan seep a little. I keep tightening them a bit at a time. Seems to get better. Just don't want to warp the pans. The tranny doesn't have a flywheel cover yet. I might get one on there before she sells, as it's just a standard 700r4/2004r cover. The car has air conditioning and all the parts are there, but it doesn't work. There was no pressure in the system when I pulled the engine and I have no idea what it would need. All the extra battery/wiring/fuel injection stuff is in front of the core support and it's kinda ugly. I was going to bead roll some closeout panels to cover that area, but haven't got to it yet. The right front window is slow, but works. I think it kind of wedges the rubber belt molding when it moves and kinda gets jammed up.
Why am I selling? Well, I really don't want to, but I need to get my shop done. The money from this car will accomplish that. When the shop is done, I guess I could always build another.
I am sure I have forgotten a bunch of stuff, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
