If you have had enough interest to read this far. I will assume that you are knowledgeable about the Allante. I am going to include some tips for buying one and hopefully help you decide whether or not this is the model you want. I am a car collector whose garage and wallet limits him to one collector car. I have enjoyed owning cars from the 50s. 60s. and 70s. but driving them is something else. They tend to have slow steering. barely adequate brakes. few real creature comforts. and none of the safety equipment we take for granted today. Five years ago when I began looking for a more modern collectible. I settled on an Allante. You probably know they were built in small numbers from 1987 to 1993. The aluminum bodies were hand-crafted by the Italian design house. Pininfarina. Upon completion. they were loaded on specially configured jumbo jets and flown to the Cadillac plant in Michigan to be mated up with the running gear. GM spared no expense on the first year model. equipping it with a high output V8 engine. glove soft Italian Recaro seats and a beautifully crafted removable aluminum hardtop. In later years the Recaros were replaced with standard Chevy seats and the hardtop became a $5000 option. In the last year. GM made up for some of the de-contenting by putting the all-new Northstar engine in the Allante. I am a big fan of the Northstar. my daily driver is an SLS with that terrific engine however 1993 was the first year for the Northstar and there were many problems with it. Now if you want the fastest Allante ever built. you definitely want a '93 with the Northstar. I opted to buy the first-year. fully-equipped 1987 Allante because it was a show car and not a daily driver. The high-output V8 in it is plenty powerful and is beautiful to behold with those long intake manifold runners. If you are buying an Allante as a collector car. I would advise you to buy either the first year it was produced or the last year. If you are just buying one to drive around with the top down. any year will do. If you do decide to make the leap. buy the best car you can find. There are some really cheap Allantes on the market. but buying one can just be the down payment on actually owning and driving it. If you are a collector. you know that we never really own a collector car. we just take care of it until the next owner comes along. It is time for mine to find a new home. I had cataract surgery about the time I bought the Allante. The cataract surgery seemed to go well. but two years later I had a detached retina. The surgery did not go well and it left me blind in that eye. That was almost three years ago and I have not driven the Allante except to keep everything in good order. As expectation that I would get my sight back has faded. I have to face the reality that keeping a collector car that I don't drive is a luxury I can't afford. The photos are all current and they speak for themselves. If there is an angle or view I didn't cover well enough for you. let me know and I will try to oblige. This is not a new car. but with only 23K miles on it. it is about a new as a 28 year old car can be. The previous owner lived in Ohio and NEVER drove it in winter. I bought it sight unseen on EBay and was not disappointed in any way. Here in Central Texas. winters are not a problem. but the hot Texas sun can be. This car has always been garaged and covered. The only time it has been wet was the day I rinsed it off when it came off the truck. The body. carpet. seats. convertible top. door panels are immaculate. The hardtop has it's own roll-around stand with cover. I personally believe (and I think you will find the Hemmings folks agree) that Allantes will only go up in the future. They are selling at used car prices now. They have everything going for them; prestige marque. eight cylinder engine. low production numbers. two seater and a top that goes down. I am hoping that someone in driving distance will come and check out the car. You won't be disappointed. If you can't see it in person. you could have an independent inspection done. If you are a savvy EBay buyer. consider my 100% positive feedback rating. Granted. I am more a buyer than a seller. but I have sold several cars on EBay over the years. While shipping is the buyer's responsibility. I can give you some tips if you have never shipped a car before. If you are in California or Florida. San Antonio is right in between on Interstate 10. Shipping to either coast should run $650 or less. I am a motivated seller. The car has a low reserve. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. .
