1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Woody Station Wagon

Excellent and rare '48 Fleetmaster woody wagon with nearly all original wood! An excellent patina and a very correct factory appearance mean this is bound to turn heads! Upgraded with an automatic transmission and ready to cruise!

From 1943 to 1946, here were virtually no American pedestrian vehicles produced. Instead, he big automakers like Ford, eneral Motors and Chrysler focused their attention on building machines of war. The nearly four million automobiles that were being sold each year prior to the war were replaced with as many tanks and bombers as factories could produce in an effort to support our military. The day WWII ended was the day America's automakers were able to end their three year hiatus from building production automobiles and refocus their attention on getting as many people on the road as possible. More than ever before, esigners like Harley Earl were allowed to break the confines and explore the art-deco era; the result was a substantial amount of influence from the jets that flew in WWII. Running boards went extinct, ubtle chrome gunsight hood ornaments became prevalent and the pontoon fenders of pre-war cars gave way to slippery bathtub bodies. Automakers were on a level playing field again in 1946 and overall production jumped to 2.2 million as troops came back and wanted new and stylish modes of transportation. In addition to an entry level 1500, hevrolet debuted the full-size 2000 Fleetline/Fleetmaster series of aerodynamic coupes and sedans. Offered in a total of eight body styles, he Fleet series proved to be a viable alternative to offerings by Ford and Chrysler. Of particular interest to those needing an equal amount of space and style was the station wagon. Advertised as an "8-passenger, -door, -window woody with drop and lift rear gates" , hese wagons found niche buyers in all parts of the country. By the last year of production in 1948, he Fleet series had become such a hit that they had only cosmetically evolved to include a horizontal radiator bar in the grille. Throughout each of the three years of production, he station wagon was consistently the rarest body style. Of the 211,861 Fleetmasters produced in 1948, nly 10,171 were woody wagons, he only car in Chevy's lineup with a sticker price of over $2,000!

This vehicle was purchased from a local St. Louis owner who lovingly owned and operated this vehicle for the last nine years! Records as we have them indicate that they puchased the car from an ad in Hemmings in September of 2006. Upon arriving in St. Louis from Arizona, he Woody received immediate servicing to ensure reliable transportation for its new female owner. Receipts include a new headliner fabric panel, epairing of the driver door handle, 12V conversion, coolant flush and most important, n automatic transmission conversion! The total bill on these road-worthy modifications totaled over $12,000! Following our purchase, e color-sanded and buffed the maroon exterior body and put a fine polishing on the largely original wood. The vehicle is certainly an attention getter and one that fires up with just a hint of choke when cold. We are confident that the next owner of this Woody will love it as much as we have, ith the added benefit of not having to shift gears! Included is the original 3-speed manual transmission, Chevrolet shop manual, nd receipts from the previous owner! We would welcome any additional questions on this fantastic Fleetmaster Woody and encourage any interested parties to call! Thanks for looking!
