US 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Frame Off Built Corvette Sting Ray Pro Touring 383 Twin Turbo V8 TH400 Air Ride Year: 1967 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Silver Mileage: 26 Transmission type: 3 Speed Automatic Engine: LT1 383 Stroker V8 Interior color: Red Vehicle info Something about the Chevrolet Corvette inspires fanaticism rarely seen with other American cars. It's why preservation-based organizations like NCRS have such a strong following and shows like Bloomington Gold draw massive crowds year after year. It's also why cars like this wildly customized 1967 Corvette coupe have such a strong and immediate impact. This C2 throws all the rules about overspray and casting numbers out the window in favor of a twin-turbo 383 stroker. air-ride suspension. and a look that will stay etched in your brain long after you've walked away. Freshly built and ready for show. this is the definition of a jaw-dropping car that has barely started its career on the show field. If collecting trophies in a twin-turbo C2 sounds like your kind of weekend. take a minute to get to know this 1967 coupe. Before anyone gets too worked up. we'll go ahead and say that the body is an aftermarket piece. No original Corvettes were harmed in the making of this custom. That said. the lines here are great. Factory Corvette bodies are noted for there impurities as much as their shape. This aftermarket piece skips over the factory flaws. focusing instead on looking as good as possible. The shell was taken to Lonnie Carlson of Ultimate Auto Body in Owosso. Michigan for paint and. looking at the car today. it's safe to say that was a good choice. There are a lot of difficult angles on this car. but every inch is covered in a glossy coat of silver that is free of runs or orange peel. Fitment is equally nice with even gaps all around. Since the car focuses on an ultra-clean aesthetic. there isn't a lot of trim to speak of. What is there. however. is definitely worth taking a closer look at. To the front. the original turn signals have been shaved and replaced by small LED units that fit neatly into a painted front bumper. At both ends. the bumpers have been trimmed and tucked in an effort to pull them closer to the body. The hood shares its shape with the standard Stinger hood of yesteryear. but small sections have been cut away to better accommodate the intake and twin turbo setup below. Fresh glass and weather-stripping fill out the greenhouse while the side profile benefits from shaved door handles. rocker trim. and badges. Follow the sloping rear window to a traditionally shaped Corvette rear. topped by a racing-style fuel cap and dual-taillight setup at either side of the license plate recess. While a pair of turbos bulging through the hood is a pretty good indicator of a serious powerplant. the true nature of the beast isn't revealed until the hood is tilted forward. The basis is a late model Chevrolet 350ci block stroked to 383 cubic inches and prepared for battle by 5-time NHRA National Champion. Bill Reichert. A small block Corvette bay generally has a decent amount of room. but this one is literally stuffed with high-performance hardware. Air is fed through a custom cold air intake that mounts to a single four-barrel carburetor from Quick Fuel Technology. Below. a bowtie intake distributes atomized fuel between a pair a cast iron heads dressed with polished valve covers and breathers. The front of the engine turns little aside from the chrome alternator while. opposite. an aluminum radiator works in harmony with a single electric fan to keep the bay cool. Of course. the star of the show is the pair of T3 turbos that breathe through an air-to-air intercooler. Not only do they look intimidating placed at either side of the engine. but they offer some amazing possibilities for the small block. A modified Painless wiring harness unites all the systems while an MSD ignition system with Pro-Data software brings the 383 to life. Slide underneath this C2 to find a clean undercarriage that continues the quality workmanship displayed up top. In the center. a TCI 400 3-speed automatic with a reverse manual valve body takes care of shifting duties before spinning power back to a narrowed Ford 9-inch with 3. 10 gears. At either side. stainless headers feed into an exhaust system which incorporates waste gates from the turbo setups and glasspack-style mufflers at the rear. The foundation for the build is a custom tube chassis fabricated by Jamieson Fabrication Unlimited out of Richland. MI. The piece combines a modified C4 setup with polished control arms and spindles up front with a triangulated 4-bar rear. The ground-scraping stance is provided by RideTech Shockwave airbags at all four corners. When the roads start to twist. manual rack-and-pinion steering offers a direct feel while GM-style four-wheel disc brakes bring the car to a halt with authority. At the corners. the traditional Torq Thrust look has been taken to extremes with 16x5 front and massive 20x14 rear wheels. Those rollers meet the road through a set of Dunlop 195/50R16 tires up front and big Mickey Thompson Sportsman rubber in size 31x18. 00R20 out back. It's a huge stagger but. visually. there's no arguing the results. Swing open the lightweight doors for a better look at the lipstick red leather interior stitched together by Bob Fender of Fender designs. The level of work on display here is usually reserved for high-end street rods. but this Corvette wears the look well. Bright red custom door sill plates anchor fresh red carpet that covers the fiberglass pans below. The plush seats offer plenty of support and custom stitching work to admire. In the center. a custom console takes the waterfall look one step further by connecting to the sculpted dashboard up front. The whole unit has been shot with the same bright silver metallic as the rest of the car for a cohesive look inside and out. The only addition to the dashboard is a unique one-piece stainless cluster that houses turn signal indicators as well as a Dolphin gauges that monitor fuel. temperature. speed. oil pressure. and voltage. Controls are offered through a console-mounted Lokar shifter with a red leather shift boot. stainless-trimmed pedals. and a leather-wrapped four-spoke billet steering wheel that tops a polished tilt column. To the lower left of that column. a small boost gauges keep tabs on the turbos. The interior is rounded out by sculpted red leather door panels designed to match the custom leather-wrapped panel that fills out the space behind the seats. It's an interior that puts design first and remains functional throughout. This show-stopping Corvette comes with a healthy stack of receipts from trusted names like Dynamic Corvette and TCP Global. There are also receipts for the paint and interior that total $18. 00 alone. When its time for some tuning. the included user guide for the MDS programmable ignition controller will be a great place to start. All in all. this is an impressive Corvette from any angle. The aftermarket body is a smart choice. the tube chassis is an impressive piece. and the custom leather interior will have lines formed at both windows just to get a better look.
