Description for Chevrolet C60 Topkick Style Ambulance, Box Truck, Mini Toter 1985
Accepting Offers!1985 Chevrolet C60Kodiak (TopKick Style) Ambulance~61,000 Original Miles
(Note: Doesnotrequire a Commercial Driver'sLicense and is Insurable by Private Individuals)
Up for sale is my 1985 Chevrolet C60 Ambulance. Ihave never seen a "TopKick" or big box style ambulance of this vintage. By TopKick, mean the whole hood tilts forward for service, aking the engine bay easily accessible.
Because of its year and history, he rig can also be insuredthrough Hagerty as a collector vehicle by private individuals. I insureit nowwith afull replacement value $5000 for $200/year. You can do the same. And because it is under 26000 GVWR, ou don't need a commercial driver's license to operate it.
Unlike the ambulances (vans) they use today, ou can actually stand up in this rig inside the box and service it easily. Perfect for a volunteer fire department, ug out vehicle, ace car support vehicle, ini-toter, ow vehicle, ervice vehicle (locksmith, elder, tc), rew pub beverage response vehicle, r parade vehicle! Has plenty of storage inside and out so it comes down to how you want to use it. Box size is 13'2 long, y 7'8 wide.
This rig was used by the City ofSheridan, Ostarting in 1993as a local Police and Fire Rescue vehicle. I believe they bought it at auction to add to their fleet, ut as you can see from the history report, t was not used much (5000 miles in 19 years). At some point,Sheridan contracted with the City of Denver for EMS services, nd this likely explains the lack of use. The rig then sat idle or was used in local parades. The man that bought it from the City when they retired it in 2012used it as a portable welding shop. He then had a kidney removed, ent on full disability, nd I purchased it from him.I have had it for almost 2 years.
Here are a few more details:
- 427 CID/7.0L Engine.
- Allison 4 speed Automatic
- 3800 RPM Governor
- Dual Rear Wheels w/airbag suspension/Eaton Rear Axle
- GVWR 15,120 lbs (4120 Front/11,000 Rear), o Commercial Driver's License Required
- Working exterior/interior lights, irens, nd PA system
- Tires purchased less than 3 years ago (about $1700) Like new with a few thousand miles on them.
- Rear end seal replaced and rear end serviced
- New front KYB shocks
- New Rear hitch
- New master cylinder
- New fuel pump
This rig was built by Frontline Emergency vehicles out of FL. Lots of aluminum diamond plate and the entire rear box is aluminum. No major dents in body or cab. Tilting hood is fiberglass. I have the build sheets from the factory, s well as service manuals, nd a registration receipt. Taxable value in 1997 was $52,300!Original purchase date was 2/22/85.
In terms of road worthiness, t has never left me stranded. It doesn't run hot. Radiator fluid is bright green with no cooling issues. Transmission shifts correctly for an Allison (they shift hard) and it runs down the road straight (doesn't wander like some older trucks). Has a newer Edelbrock carburetor and a nice Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo with an AUX jack and USB port.
It needs little things here and there:
- AC belt is off. I never put one on as I live in Colorado at 7,500 feet.It is the older R12 compressor (big one), ut could be converted to R134. AC hoses go back into the Box, o once complete you could run the AC in the Box. Heat in the box as well.
- Spotlights don't turn on. Could be a fuse or wiring. I may check this out/fix prior to sale if I can figure it out.
- Black cloth headliner is drooping. Needs to be removed, ontact cement applied, nd re-affixed.
I am accepting offers so don't be afraid to make one.I rarely use this rig and have other projects I need to finish, ut I am not in a hurry. I will list it until it finds a new home. My wife actually doesn't want me to sell it!
