Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1981
*** There is a slideshow with more detailed pics at the bottom of the auction. ***1981 Corvette. Originally Silver Metallic with Silver Gray Leather interior. At some point the interior was changed over to red and the car was painted yellow. The car was sanded down and restoration was started when I bought the car. I was told it was driven to the previous owners house a couple years ago and has sat there ever since. The engine is the original L81 5.7L V8 and does turn by hand. The car comes with a clear title and a bill of sale.
The car needs to be put back together and painted. I have personally restored a 78 Corvette so I know what it takes. Everything you need is there and this is a great car to finish. The rest of the little things (bolts, crews, tc) can be ordered online. I would paint the car silver and leave the interior red. I've included some pics of a restored car like this and its beautiful (see slideshow below).
When I got the car, he previous owner was in the process using parts off a black 75-79 Corvette to complete the car. Someone cut up the outside of the original doors so he replaced them with the doors from the black one. With adjustment they will fit fine. The original doors (with the ID decal) do come with the car though (see the pics). You might can reskin them if you really wanted to. He also replaced the hood with the black one. He didn't know the front and rear bumper covers wouldn't fit so since then I've pulled them off and am selling them separately along with the rest of the front clip off the 75-79. So you will need to purchase a new front and rear bumper cover online. The rest of the body is there.
During sanding, hey sanded into the fiberglass seams on both sides (see pics). Not sure why. These will need to be fiberglassed back in and sanded smooth. There is another spot on the front nose where they cut a seam starting at the point of the hood down the front of the nose and stopped halfway. Not sure why. So it will have to be glassed and sanded. There is also another spot on the passenger side front corner that will have to be glassed and sanded (see pics). Lastly, couple of the rear bumper cover mounting spots are damaged and need to be reglassed, anded, nd re-drilled as well. I don't think these will be that big of a deal to fix.
The front windshield is missing. The rear glass is fine. But there is some rust in the bottom of the front windshield frame. Its just two small holes on both sides at the corners (see the pics). There is also rust in the bottom of the water channel inside the corner of the drivers side door (see pics). The passenger side looks ok. These small spots will have to be cut out and patched.
Both floorpans will have to be replaced (see the pics). The pans can be ordered online. Once they are put in I would use Hushmat and Reflectix to insulate the floors (common Corvette fix - Google it). They run pretty hot.
All of the interior parts needed are there. Including the two red seats. Alot of interior parts off the other car are included as well. It must have had black interior. So you will get 4 door panels (2 red & 2 black), console plates, sets of door glass, sets of guages, t-top halo covers, tc. Not sure which gauge pod is original so you get to pick what mileage you want. ;-)
The frame has zero rust but the spare tire assembly is missing from the rear. You can find one online.
The wheels are Corvette rallyes from the mid-70s so its up to you whether or not you want to replace them with the aluminum originals from the late 70's/early 80s.
I've described everything I can think to on the car. Feel free to ask many any questions. Also check out the slideshow below and the pics of the silver restored 81 with red interior. Gorgeous!!!
