Description for Chevrolet El Camino 1981
PLEASE READ!
For sale is an all original 1981 Chevrolet El Camino Conquista. This is a project car and it needs a little work, ut if you're interested in this classic pickup then you know it is worth the investment of your time and money! I purchased this truck back in November of 2014. I wanted something all original and untouched, ut affordable. This was the first El Camino that I saw advertised online that had not been butchered and molested, t wasn't in the best shape but I bought it anyway. I decided to purchase this truck to gain more personal experience in vehicle restoration. I drove this classic gem home from Suwanee, A to Conyers, A, ut it didn't run very well. When surveying the engine compartment, noticed that this truck still had ALL of its factory engine components, o I began replacing parts.
The truck has a Chevy 3.8L 229CID V6 engine, hich is coupled with a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. As of today, have installed a slew of brand new parts, hich includes — a brand new Rochester Dualjet 210 carburetor, new distributor cap and rotor, new ignition coil, ew spark plug wires, ew spark plugs, new alternator, new battery, new starter, new master cylinder, nd new front brake rotors and brake pads. In addition, have replaced the transmission pan gasket and filter and changed the oil. I was very optimistic about replacing these parts, oping that it would give the engine some of its spunk back. Unfortunately, he results of replacing the listed parts bared minimal noticeable performance changes. The engine runs a lot smoother, ut it's still rough. I suspect that the engine has improper timing and/or a valve problem. I have yet to attempt to adjust the timing and I have not done a compression test. The engine smokes when first started, ut the smoke diminishes after a while. The engine has a slight oil leak, ut nearly all cars this age do. There are no knocking, icking, r rattling noises coming from the engine. Being that this truck is emissions exempt in the state of Georgia, began removing some of the smog equipment. The air pump, ir management valve, nd EGR solenoid have been removed. Also, he brake system still needs to be bled.
In the matter of appearance, his truck has definitely seen better times. The body of the truck is virtually solid, aving only minor rust-through in the floor pans. The frame of the truck shows minimal corrosion. There are a few dents and dings in the body, ut nothing that needs extensive repair. The paint is fading away on the hood, oof, nd tailgate. The paint on the sides of the car still has some luster. The interior is functional, ut worn. The dashboard is cracked. The vinyl upholstery on the driver's side of the full bench seat is cracked. The carpet is dirty. The plastic trimming inside of the truck is sun-faded. The previous owner removed the radio, ut it is still present.
I am the third owner of this truck. The truck has clean Georgia title, hich I have in my possession. In Georgia, ars manufactured in 1985 and prior don't require a title to be registered. To save money, lot of people just don't bother to have the title transferred into their name and these things are lost forever. So, aving a car this old with a title always brings more buyers. When I purchased this truck the steering column had been busted in a theft attempt. The steering column needs to be replaced or rebuilt, ut it is still functional. The previous owner also hacked off the muffler, o the truck will need a new one.
I have invested approximately $3,500 into this truck. The rally wheels that you see in the pictures and the video have been sold, o if you want this truck you'll have to bring your own wheels. I'm keeping the battery ($100 if you want it), ut I'll use it to show the buyer that the engine does in fact run. The truck currently runs, ut it is not drivable, o any interested buyers will also need access to a tow truck or a flatbed. I'm eager to sell this truck, ut I'm not desperate. I'd rather sit on the truck until a serious buyer shows interest, han to give it away to an unrealistic, nreasonable, gitating, ow-balling tire kicker. If you want an El Camino, hen you should know it's gonna cost you a little money.
Quick fact, his El Camino has been a Georgia car from day one! It was assembled at GM's old Doraville, A plant (identified by the "D" in the VIN number) and it was sold in Conyers, A at a Chevrolet dealership shortly thereafter.
I'd like to sell this truck as soon as possible. I can be contacted directly via phone or text message at (678) 210-6718.
This vehicle is being sold as-is with no warranty.
