Description for Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1954
1954 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible
I purchased this car in 1989 from a man in Colorado - it has been in our family for 25 years. I flew with a friend to Colorado and drove it home to San Diego. I used it as my daily driver around town in the San Diego area for several years before undertaking a three year long frame off restoration which was completed in 1995.
The features of the car are:
- All original except the color - pink and white chosen to match the 1954 Chevrolet Convertible Body by Fisher advertisement from the July 1954 edition of the Saturday Evening Post. As far as I know, his color was never made by Chevrolet See: https://www.flickr.com/photos/autohistorian/5720820352/ There are many internet sites with this ad, nd original copies can be purchased on ebay.
- Options include: power steering, ower brakes, ower top, power seat, ower windows. Original automatic headlight dimmer comes with the car but is not installed. Optional windshield washer installed.
- Full frame off restoration. This car was completely disassembled by me and then re-assembled with 3-4 months of professional assistance from Ron's Auto Body in San Marcos CA.
- Two stage epoxy paint color / primer with polyurethane clear coat. The clear is very thick and mirror smooth. The body was taken down to bare metal before painting. All body parts were stripped and repainted.
- Rebuilt engine. 235 cu in 6-cylinder. Machine work by Wilsons Machine Works in Encinitas CA. All engine accessories rebuilt. I have always used Mobil-1 full synthetic oil.
- Rebuilt Transmission. Cast iron two speed Powerglide automatic.
- Rebuilt differential.
- Rebuilt power steering, ower brakes.
- All chassis parts and the complete differential sandblasted and powder coated.
- Body undercoating was redone while off the frame.
- All fasteners re-plated original zinc.
- New brakes, nd suspension.
- New brake lines, uel lines, iring harness.
- All chrome and stainless trim re-chromed or polished.
- New matching pink and white interior, nd white convertible top.
- White interior carpets, ith black fitted carpet over the top to keep it clean.
- Seat belts installed for 6 people.
- 4 extra wheels (pink) come with the car for use with a second set of tires. Spare tire in the trunk.
- Original glass reinstalled.
- 6V system - it's original.

See attached pictures. We located the place where the Body by Fisher ad was photographed in Palm Springs CA and took a picture there. See above. This is a great car; truly a piece of Americana.
It is a consistent show winner and is very popular.
It averages about 18 mpg. Parts are easily obtained and are relatively inexpensive. I'm talking $15 for a carb rebuild kit for example.
