Much too nice to be a mere rat rod. this slick rod has plenty of power. a spectacular leather-lined interior. and excellent road manners to go with its vintage performance look. Its also a fresh build. so you should have no worries about taking it out and putting it on the road. The body is all General Motors steel augmented with a set of fiberglass fenders. so it has a solid feeling that is lost on many rods like this. The Chevys styling is a bit out-of-the-ordinary compared to all the Fords you see running around. and to my eye. its a bit sleeker and more contemporary. I especially dig the way the rear of the bodywork juts out to follow the curve of the rear fenders. making for ideal proportions on the body. Satin black is red hot right now. and when it looks this good. theres no reason not to use it. Fortunately. the bodywork is in good shape underneath that softly glowing paint and its been accented with traditional pinstripes in bright red. Removed hood sides are a traditional hot rodding touch. but the red grille insert. suicide doors. and tubular bumpers all add to the custom look. Other details include rubber-covered running boards. square taillights (with blue dots!). and original headlights and a piston hood ornament just to dress things up a bit. The interior is also black and red. and if you like the combination. youre going to love spending time in here. The seats are from a PT Cruiser. but we wont tell anyone. and they look exactly right in this familiar 2-door. The upholstery patterns have a 50s look that suits the car perfectly and the matching pleated door panels are a great touch. VDO gauges in a custom billet aluminum instrument panel keep tabs on the important stuff up front. and theres a polished aluminum steering wheel wrapped in red leather that really stands out. Features like A/C. power windows. and a tilt steering column all add to the driving experience. A full-width rear bench makes room for some friends or family. and having been completed in 2013. there are virtually zero signs of use. Power comes from a 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 with the usual upgrades to make it entertaining. Theres a mild cam inside. a Holley carb up top. an MSD ignition system. and tons of chrome and polished aluminum to make it flashy under the hood. It starts easily and runs well. so start planning your road trip now. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and 10-bolt rear end are critical links in the reliability chain. and the burbling dual exhaust uses Flowmasters to make that awesome sound. The front suspension appears to be a Heidts A-arm setup with rack-and-pinion steering and disc brakes. so it steers and handles like a modern car. Cool painted wire wheels enhance the old-school look. particularly with the spinners in the center. and carry staggered 205/70/14 front and 225/70/15 rear tires for just a bit of a rake.
