The craze for collectible pickup trucks has increased in the last decade to the point where most collectors with large collections have a few collectible pickup trucks in the spectrum of their collection. Some of the most popular pickup trucks today are those that are turned into Retro Rods. Most people who have driven a vintage pickup truck know that they are typically underpowered with the original drive train nor do they cruise well at highway speeds and very often have poor handling and maneuverability. Years ago the American collectors came up the solution to have the look that they wanted of a vintage truck with the handling and highway cruising speeds needed to perform well on modern highways. Along comes American ingenuity of keeping the great looks of the vintage truck and updating the drive train and components to make it highly civilized for highway travel and handling. Here at MissChiTown we call these pickup trucks Retro Rod Trucks. The 1965 Chevy Fleetside for sale in this auction was purchased in 1994 and completed in 2012. Each and every procedure was planned and calculated to achieve a well handling and great driving vehicle with tons of get up and go while maintaining the nostalgic look. If you love the vintage pickup trucks but want to drive at highway speeds this could be just the truck you have been looking for with the work done and ready for you to drive. Below the seller provides a description of the truck in his own words. The seller shares his story of how he spent close to twenty years restoring this Fleetside to the truck of his dreams. In 1994 I was driving down Highway 11 and happened to see this interesting multi color pickup for sale so I turned around to check it out found out it was a deal I could not pass up. I had fixed up trucks previously and had a vision of how I wanted to restore this 1965 Chevy Pickup Fleetside. Getting it home was a challenge with no brakes and it only ran on 4 cylinders. I finally made it home after 2 hours. The truck sat for four years until 1998 when I started to tear it apart and stripped it down to the cab on frame. In 1999 I moved to a new location and continued to take the truck a part further. Life got busy. and the truck sat for another 10 years while I was raising kids. Once the kids were grown. in 2009 I started working on the truck. In 2011. I really focused on the project and spent the money necessary to restore it the way I wanted it. When it was time to pick out the paint color I looked at thousands of paint chips and finally Root Beer Brown caught my eye because it was a beautiful color and fit the truck perfect!
