As the old saying goes: in life, nly three things are guaranteed death, axes and Bel Airs at classic car events. At least, hat's how the saying goes in OUR octane-fueled world. Of course, hat list is a little unfair to tri-fives because, nlike death and taxes, ld school Chevys are a lot of fun. And this coupe, ith its brutal 502, tylish leather interior and classic, -tone aesthetics, lends an array of custom, river-friendly attributes into a vintage package that virtually anyone can enjoy!

BODYWORK/TRIM

When it comes to tri-five Chevys 2-tone paint is pretty much a given, nd this hardtop's remarkable combination of black and silver 2-stage works well to freshen what has become a timeless hot rod color scheme. Naturally, he foundation for those pigments is a body-off, otisserie restoration that spared no expense massaging the car's rock-solid surfacing into better-than-new condition. That surfacing is highlighted by a brilliant array of trim, hich includes factory bumper guards, lectric Rain Gear wipers, actory-tint glass and polished mirrors. And today, his classic rolls as a top-notch cruiser that's ready to turn heads and win trophies!

ENGINE

Glance under this double-nickel's hood and you'll find a sweet GM Performance Parts ZZ502 that's been built, olished and tweaked to 9.6 to 1 compression and a killer 502 horsepower! A perfect air/fuel mixture is supplied by a familiar Holley carburetor, hich floats between an Aeromotive regulator, Barry Grant pressure gauge, Lokar throttle linkage and a bowtie-capped K&N air filter. That 4-barrel rides on an aluminum Chevrolet intake, hich is bolted between lightweight aluminum heads. Those heads hang snazzy Chevrolet valve covers over stamped steel rocker arms, .25-inch intake valves and 1.88-inch exhaust valves. Those rockers are engaged by a hydraulic roller cam, hich is sequenced to loomed GM plug wires and a modern Delco-Remy distributor. Spent gases roll through beefy Sanderson headers. At the front of those headers, familiar March serpentine drive spins a Stewart water pump between a modern AC compressor, proven Wilson alternator and modern power steering. And that pump feeds an aluminum Griffin radiator that's wedged between two electric pusher fans and an aftermarket pulley fan.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Structurally, he '55 Chevrolet is an extremely versatile platform that can accept a wide variety of enhancements. And one look under this Bel Air provides a glimpse of how a few quality modifications can make a big difference. Behind the big block, tough 700R4 hangs a powder-coated case and cast fluid pan between a Mark Williams driveshaft and 2,500 RPM stall converter. That driveshaft twists a matching Mark Williams third member, hich spins Dutchmen axles around 3.50 Richmond gears. That drivetrain rides a full Jim Meyers Racing Products chassis, hich mixes a lowered ride height with beefy sway bars, ubular control arms and adjustable QA-1 coil-overs. The aforementioned power steering pushes a modern rack-and-pinion setup. Stops come courtesy of GM-style power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust is handled by aluminized, rue-dual pipes, hich employ throaty DynoMax mufflers. Grip is provided by polished Cragar Street Pros, hich spin 205/65R15 BF Goodrich Advantage T/As in front of 255/55R17 BF Goodrich Advantage T/As. And everything, rom the car's finned transmission coolers to its Rock Valley fuel tank, ppears purpose-built to tackle the asphalt.

INTERIOR

There is no shortage of tri-fives with custom leather interiors, ut a car this comfortable is always a stand out. With Airtique climate control and powerful Custom Autosound audio, ll the modern conveniences are present and accounted for. One of the best additions to the cabin is a sculpted TEA's Design seat, hich folds driver and passenger armrests in front of a stock, owtie-branded bench. In front of those thrones, body-matched dash frames hidden audio components in polished aluminum trim and VDO telemetry. The carpet is extra plush, loating color-keyed, Bel Air" branded floor mats between a billet throttle pedal and big kick speakers. In front of the driver, tilting Ididit column spins a polished, alf-wrapped and color-keyed wheel. And behind the passengers, fully finished trunk hides a Custom Autosound CD changer and Optima gel cell battery beneath crisp Pioneer speakers.
