Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1965
The Term "Barn Find" is certainly over used today and we are reluctant to use it with our 1965 Corvette Roadster, n particular because it's three decade resting place was a residential home basement, ot a Barn. We recently purchased this car from the estate of a long term owner. For reasons unknown, he gentleman who was the cars second owner, topped driving the car in the mid 1980's and chose to store it in the basement of his home. He had owned the car since 1976 and drove it as his everyday car up into the early 1980's at which time he became aware of some rust damage developing on the cars frame. We learned from his family that he purchased a good used factory Corvette frame and changed it over himself, t the same time freshened the cars mechanical's. Upon completion the car was no longer his everyday car but was driven very little until about 1986 when he found a long term storage spot in his homes basement. There it sat untouched and surrounded by lots of other accumulated personal belongings until our rescue just last month. You will see what I am talking about in a couple of the photos prior to us uncovering the car, emoving a basement wall and winching the car outside for the first time in nearly 30 years. The '65 Corvette is fairly basic Convertible equipped with the Base 327 Code HO motor, owerglide automatic transmission, ower steering, M-FM radio and removable hardtop. Original colors per the factory trim tag are code FF Nassau Blue with Black standard interior. A recently obtained NCRS shipping report shows the car was delivered new by Green County Motor Company, he Chevrolet Dealer in Waynesburg, A. It appears this car never ledt the area with its two subsequent 50 year owners. This car is totally original as delivered new with the exception of factory side exhaust added by the first owner I'm told. It is a 100% positive matching number original drivetrain car, ot a re-stamp. It is the REAL factory installed motor, rans and rear-end without a doubt. The VIN plate and Corvette trim tag are correct originals as you will see in our photos. Storage conditions in the house basement were actually not to bad for the mechanicals of the car. After retrieval from the basement we had the car to a running and driving condition with nothing more then a new battery, uel system flush, arb rebuild and bleeding the brakes. Motor sounds very good, xcellent oil pressure, o smoke or leaks and transmission shifts properly. We notice the tachometer and radio are not functioning. The electric hidden headlamps are in the open position and need serviced to be operable. 4 wheel disc brakes are functional and it appears they had service when the frame was changed out. Overall body condition is excellent with just a few small very light damaged areas and all original body panels. The car is in fact mostly original paint in very poor condition. The rare 65 only grill is in place There are no body modifications from original. Exterior chrome is not so good and will require replacement or replating. Glass is good except hardtop rear window is crazed. Interior is complete and original. Seat upholstery and carpets are in poor condition but dash panels and door panels are actually very good. All instruments, adio and dash trim are properly in place. The added factory side exhaust covers are really nice condition. We have the spare tire canister and cover although not installed in the car. We currently have operating door lock keys for the car but do not have a functional ignition key at this time. Very original, nmodified cars with good frames and undamaged body's are becoming very hard to find in an unrestored and affordable condition. This car will be a great project for someone being the important parts are all there and its a '65 Corvette Roadster in Nassau Blue, ne of the most desirable colors. This car could also be a great start for a Resto-Rod project if one so desired. Look over our pictures, sk questions or come to Erie, A to view the car. We strive to accurately describe our cars both in words and thru detailed photos. Current odometer reads 41,499 but true mileage is unknown.
