Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1966
1966 CHEVROLET
CORVETTE
ROADSTER
427/425 H.P.
In 1966 Chevrolet replace the Corvette's 396 cubic inch big block with their "legendary" 427. There were two versions; one was a390 horse power model (which really dyno'd in at 400 hp) and the other was a 425 horse power version which really produced 450 h.p.Because of insurance rates the 450 h.p. engine was rated at 425 hp, ut the engine was not "de-tuned" .It retained the high performance mechanical cam and 11.0:1 compression ratio. In 1966 Chevrolet produced approximately 27,000 Corvettes, f which 3300 were Milano Maroon. I do not know how many were 427/425 h.p
Up for sale by a private party is a numbers matching and recently restored 1966 Corvette roadster with the L72, 27 cu. in. 425 h.p. option; 4-speed M-21 transmission, nd in its original color of Milano Maroon. The car has 50,000 original miles and has not been tagged since its body off the frame restoration. It is believed to only have been a 2-owner car. Current owner won the car in a raffle and was told the car came from the mid-west (Michigan as per the title); had a frame off restoration in the past 12 months and that it was a numbers matching car. Unfortunately, here are no documents included with the car. The winner of the raffle (current owner) cannot drive it due to health reasons.
All of the numbers match from the "I.P."6114732 block; casting # 3869942 "P" stamp, nbsp;to the transmission and frame. The car retains the original tach-drive distributor and points ignition.
The fuel line and carburetor are not original. It has an 800 Holley "double pumper" built by Brad Urban of The Carb Shop in California.
Interior seats are thought to be original due to a small "cigarette burn" (see photo).
